Questioned about my underwear at a Police checkpoint.

We are still at the beach resort waiting for the wedding to commence on Friday night..

Just before lunch time I drove to a 7/11 to grab a couple of cold ones as I refuse to pay inflated hotel prices, when I was stopped by a BIB at a police checkpoint.

I was on a rented bike and the cop asked to see my license. I showed him my Thai motorbike license, to which he seemed a tad angry about, but there was nothing he could do but let me go on my way..

I was about to drive off when he grabbed my arm and said 'wait a minute, my friend. Are you wearing underpants?'

Stunned I replied, 'of course I am, do you want to see?'

He laughed and said 'No thanks, have a good day....'

Quite possibly the strangest interaction I have ever had with a Thai in my life.

It's illegal to not wear underwear when you're out and about in Thailand. So he has every right to ask you...

Can you point to the specific section of Thai law that prohibits an individual from leaving the house without wearing any underwear?

Thanks.

The Don.

There is a long-standing urban myth that Thai law prohibits individuals from leaving their house without wearing underwear. However, no such law actually exists in Thailand.

This misconception likely stems from older regulations related to public decency, such as the requirement to dress appropriately and prohibitions on public indecency under the Criminal Code of Thailand (Sections 388 and 389). These laws generally cover behavior that may be considered offensive or disruptive to public order but do not specifically mention underwear.

So there is no official law on the books, is there?

I mean, I couldn't be arrested, taken to court and tried for not wearing my kecks, could I?

We are still at the beach resort waiting for the gay wedding to commence on Friday night.

Just before lunchtime, I hopped on my rented bike wearing nothing but a snug pair of pink shorts and a tank top that left little to the imagination. I had a craving for some hotdogs and something cold and refreshing, so I decided to swing by the 7/11—not just for the drinks, but also to check out if any cute guys were hanging around. You never know where you might meet someone interesting.

On my way back, I got stopped by a handsome BIB at a police checkpoint.

The copper looked me up and down, staring at my crotch for a while and then asked to see my license. I handed him my Thai motorbike license, and he seemed a tad irritated, maybe expecting to catch me with a boner. But there was nothing he could do except hand it back and let me go on my way.

I was about to drive off when he suddenly grabbed my arm and said, “Wait a minute, my friend. You seem like a man who appreciates… male company.”

Stunned, I replied, “Well, that depends on what you mean. Are you asking in an official capacity?”

He smirked and said, “Just making conversation… You know, I get off my shift in an hour.”

Quite possibly the strangest interaction I have ever had with another bent male in my life.

Did that sound pre-historic when you typed it ?

The thing is that with the boxer short being back in fashion is doesn't make any difference, whether I wear them or not, when I get a boner on an escalator in T21.

That entirely depends on the circumstances and interpretation of the officer at the time. If he considered what you were doing was "indecency", then YES action may result. as stated by the above law.

New member, and over 130 posts in a week, and now you come up with this piece of unbelievable rubbish.

A Thai policeman actually said "wait a minute, are you wearing underpants" and " No thanks, have a good day". Thai police just don't talk like that.

At least your amazing posts gives many of the AN posters many laughs for the day. 😂
