Obviously this is double speak because you can't vape unless you're in possession of a vape.

No it is not. Can you read English or Thai?

It is, and I can.

Is there some new law about it?

No one ever have been fined for vaping in Thailand. They can try to fine for something else indeed, such as illegal import if they can prove it you did, but then charges must be made by customs not  police. Usually it's just extortion.

https://coconuts.co/bangkok/news/no-vaping-and-vapes-are-not-illegal-in-thailand-heres-why/

Unfortunately, there have been famous cases in 2017, 2019 and 2023 of tourists being fined, jailed and even deported for vaping. In fact, the laws allow for a fine of up to 30,000 THB and a jail sentence of up to 10 years.

Excellent article except a bit out of date. The "booming black market", for now, has been shut down.

Not at my watering hole, but, they are very considerate, they lug on the stuff outside, as the landlady has been warned about smoking at her premises, even gave her wall stickers... :clap2:

Lucky. No one I know can get hold of anything including from FB contacts. I guess if people have a stock of juice and are using reusable vapes they'll be fine for now.

There used to be a bloke come round selling it, not seen him for a while, but they are getting it from somewhere, one bloke has been vaping for a few years now.

But, I have not seen a policeman for many years in my area, except our lad, I will ask him the vaping situation...☺️

Have you even read what you are posting?  These links leads to usual extortion cases and unclear charges.  I suggest to consult with lawyer who deals with this if you don't understand how law works.

I see the question being asked many times in the Facebook tourist groups, are they illegal.....?

10,000 wasn't too bad, I've heard here in Phuket 12 to 14,000 baht,

crazy extortion rates by local salary numbers.

Do you mean I may not have read this.....

the laws allow for a fine of up to 30,000 THB and a jail sentence of up to 10 years.

Not sure where you get extortion and unclear charges from. This simply states "the laws allow for a fine of up to 30,000 THB and a jail sentence of up to 10 years." Key words; the laws, fine, jail sentence.

What laws? I can write 100 years,  that doesn't make it law.   References on your mentioned cases and says exactly,  extortion and unclear charges.

You cannot fine anyone or put in jail with some vague AI overview moreover if there is nothing about possession and usage in mentioned law and no one ever have been fined based on this law. Maybe better listen to real lawyer who defended clients for real?

You mean mentioning about arrests there?  There is crackdown on sellers and importers going on, so there can be even more. Nothing to do with users.  Maybe better listen to lawyer and not so much shocking press releases. They are doing their job, but as I know there is no changes in laws since 2019.

I suggest you go back to my OP. Thai lad 10k fine or 1 yr jail. His boss paid the fine. Stop being obtuse.

It's an interesting pic for an article about a schoolboy dispute over one broken vape. Definite anti-vape pro-crackdown propaganda value there.  .

He was probably fooled  and fined for something else.  Read the ticket.   That's why I asked initially what is written there. Maybe there is new law.

Daft is to be ignorant of laws. Also not having lawyer and connections in police. Anywhere in the world.

Now you're just being ridiculous. He was done for vaping on the street around 4 am and fined Bt10,000. End of story. If you can't accept this fine but please enough is enough.

He was fooled. Better let him appeal it. No panic.  Just interesting what they wrote in ticket.

A quick dive into the internet reveals the following with links:

Vaping introduces various harmful substances into the body, leading to several health risks:

Respiratory System:

  • Lung Damage: The inhalation of chemicals like diacetyl, found in some e-cigarette flavors, has been linked to severe lung diseases, including bronchiolitis obliterans, commonly known as "popcorn lung."

  • Inflammation and Irritation: Vaping can cause inflammation and irritation of the airways, potentially leading to chronic respiratory conditions.

Cardiovascular System:

  • Heart Disease: Nicotine exposure from vaping increases heart rate and blood pressure, elevating the risk of heart disease and heart attacks.

Nervous System:

  • Addiction: Nicotine is highly addictive, leading to dependence and potential withdrawal symptoms.

  • Brain Development: Nicotine exposure during adolescence can harm brain development, affecting areas responsible for attention, learning, and impulse control.

Oral Health:

  • Tooth Decay and Gum Disease: Vaping can lead to dry mouth, increasing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.

  • 'Vape Tongue': This condition involves a temporary loss of taste due to excessive vaping.

Chemical Exposure:

  • Toxic Substances: E-cigarette vapor contains harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde and acrolein, which can cause lung and heart diseases.

  • Heavy Metals: Users may inhale metals like nickel, tin, and lead, which are toxic to the body.

Cancer Risk:

  • Carcinogens: Some e-cigarette liquids contain carcinogenic substances, potentially increasing the risk of cancers, including lung cancer.

Acute Lung Injury:

  • EVALI: The use of e-cigarettes has been associated with E-cigarette or Vaping Product Use-Associated Lung Injury (EVALI), a serious condition causing symptoms like shortness of breath, cough, and chest pain.

Vaping can expose users to various harmful substances, leading to significant health risks affecting multiple bodily systems.

All that may be true.  But smoking is worse.  If the choice is vaping or nothing, nothing is probably better for you.

If the choice is vaping or smoking, the best argument against vaping seems to be the chance of getting tossed in jail.  That's what makes it more hazardous.

It's been the same with weed vs booze for most of my entire life.  Weed may not be good, but booze is worse.  But you won't get arrested for a few booze seeds in your car's carpeting.

Out of curiosity, did he get a receipt from the popo?

I'm not doubting that it happened.  Just wondering how above board it was?

It states 666 people have been arrested selling the apparatus, so in my book it is taken seriously.

If any farangy gets nabbed, imagine getting carted off to the nick to be interrogated as to where they got the gear.......🤕...........🤭

I think, not worth the risk..☺️
