Dear Folks,

 

Most people, try as they might, find it difficult to feel especially happy about dying.

 

However, in this LOS, might it be possible to just....

 

Go out with a smile?

 

I would say, as an expat myself, that if I were to die in Thailand, then I would be smiling.

 

Some expats say that living in Thailand is better than anywhere else.

 

And I say, too, that dying in Thailand is better than dying in most other places.

 

I feel at peace to know that I will expire here...that is....unless, for some reason...

My visas do not expire before me.

 

I still have many years to go, .....

 

And miles to go before I sleep,

And even more kilometers to go before I sleep.

 

Is Thailand pretty much the best place in the world...to...

DIE!

 

Yes, it is, but just IMHO.

 

Thailand is a place of peace for the living.

And, it is an even greater place of peace for those who are bout to die.

 

I SALUTE you....those of you who are about to die...and....I will...

Soon follow you, yet not so soon....

I hope.

 

Any thoughts about any better place to die, compared to Thailand?

Absolutely. Hopefully the doctors are a lot more open to sending me home to my bed with lots of really good painkilling drugs in my family's pockets should it come to that. Or the number of a broker that can sell them, at least.

One of the reasons I left Thailand is that I really didn't like the idea of getting seriously sick there and dying there. I can't put my finger on why I feel this way, but I'd rather my life end in the country where it began.

I'm already dead inside.

At '76 this year' (as the Thais would put it) I'm looking forward to another 20 years of healthy living.

 

But when the time comes, whenever that might be, I hope to be lying in our bed here at home in Prasat, my b/f holding my hand as I set out to cross the river, our family all round and all attached to me with strings, people coming & going with food, the monks (maybe) outside the room chanting and also attached by strings.

 

And I will have to make a decision (if I have time) whether to summon a Catholic priest for the last rites. Not sure whether one will be available here at the edge of the jungle at the end of the world ...

My grandmother told me her first husband literally died on top of her!

Agree and I've heard that death can be fatal!!!!!!

I managed to escape the USA before they could murder me with their COVID jabs, and I didn't feel like having a digital "passport" of any kind.  So I got on a plane and the rest is history.  I'm 73 and I could die today, or, I could have another 20 or 30 or 40 years.  If family history is any guide, I'll probably be around for a long time. But if not, it won't be because I didn't try.  

 

In any event, I'm sure being dead isn't anything to worry about.  From what I've read, something like 125 billion human beings have lived so far, but the gene pool survives.

Sorry to hear that, Chip. Hopefully you will get an extension. Doctors can be wrong sometimes. Enjoy what you can, when you can.  

It's not so much the dying, it's the disposal that concerns me.

 

My MIL died several years ago and (as is the Chinese practice) she was cremated. We waited at the crematorium for the remains. I was expecting an urn. Instead the worker handed my girl a tin can - a small bucket - with the ashes inside, including a recogniseable chunk of skull. She burst into floods of tears. I was kicking myself for not having brought a decent urn along with me. I was disgusted at the callousness of it.

 

In Georgetown, Penang, just across the road from the beautiful historic E&O Hotel, there is an old British Colonial graveyard. It's a fascinating place to walk around, I highly recommend it if you ever visit the island. The inscriptions on the headstones and tombs are so intriguing. The names often match street names in the old town. Some carry short stories of the lives and deaths of the interred. Most of the graves are in bad condition, falling over, broken, and overgrown. It's a shame to see such history neglected. It's a sad and forlorn sight. How dare the British community and Churches - or even the State - allows such a precious monument to rot like that.

 

But worse still is the state of the locals graveyards, both muslim and Chinese. They are all little more than waste ground, often with industrial buildings pressing up on the perimeters. No dignity, no peace, no respect.

 

It might not matter to you when you're dead - but it might matter a lot to your loved ones that you are interred in an abandoned <deleted>hole. Think of them you selfish bastards.

Well, if I die here, I certainly won't care after the fact. Unless I get married I won't have any surviving relatives to take care of things, so I will have to make some arrangements ahead of time, such as a will on file here somewhere. It's OK if there are bits of skull in the mix. I do have friends here, maybe one of them might help. 

I have no preferences as to where I die. Although there will probably be more people mourning my passing in Thailand.

 

Dead is dead.

And have lived here as I wished.

Then, I die here.

 

As simple as that.
