Bangkok has run its course

I need to stop coming here.

No other place has had a hold of me so badly.  I've never been to a place which is like a drug where when you are there you are in bliss and when you are not there you are miserable.

There's no self control here and I think I am a sex addict.  I already caught an STD.  There's drugs everywhere and I found myself doing cannabis everyday.  I have no discipline to stay away.

This place and the people are so wonderful.  They truly are some of the best in the world.  I think I could live here forever but that might not be a good idea.

I stayed three months longer than I should have, making it six months.  My life in USA is going down the <deleted>ter.  I will probably be homeless when I go back.

I have decided to pursue IT less and maybe learn how to take care of old people.  I want to take care of old people in Hawaii and live a simple life away from red light districts and luxury malls.

The friends I make here eventually go their own separate ways.  Yes I get to socialize and make friends here but the place is very transient.  Even my Thai friends who used to get drunk and eat chicken feet are gone now.

Thailand will never be as good as when Yingluck Shiniwatra was PM and King Bhumibol was alive.  That was the absolute best time.  Thailand is a like a cocaine high that I try to recreate and while it's still good it will never be the same.

I've been chasing this dream for a while but I don't think I want it anymore because it feels empty.  Instead, I want solitude, simplicity, and books.

And it hurts to leave.  I have a few weeks left and every day I feel a crushing weight against my chest that I am once again leaving this magical and wonderful place.  A place which has ruined all other places for me, including Hawaii.  Because they simply can not compare.

I think I am a sex addict.  I caught herpes.  I keep going to Wood Bar.  I drink when I am out here and I never drink.  I was doing cannabis every day.  I lost the home I was living in Hawaii.

Dude they are hideous in Wood Bar. Dont embarass yourself here, there are specialized Forums where they have no regard. What is it going to be like for you when you find the good places?

I know them allllll.I know them all. I know them all

Shhhhhhhhh

Let me know when you go back........

Over the years I have seen too many people crash and burn here. Some did so fast, others in slow-motion. Most refuse to accept their situation and keep going downhill. Confession and acceptance are the first steps to recovery. Best of luck.

Do not worry, a cure for Herpes is around the corner. Besides it has positive sides, it strengthens your immune system.

Come back! So many willing women!

There's a couple cute good looking girls there.

There's a girl there that gives me the rim of a lifetime. We're talking Rusty Trombone.

There is no cure. And the potential treatments rely on  gene therapy using mRNA technology, which you oppose. And no , herpes does not strenghtn  the imunity system. On the contrary, the reoccurence of  variants such as herpes zoster occurs when the immune system is stressed.

No they do not always come back. More people stay away. All it takes is one rip off. Asean Now's list of "members" is populated by people who have not come back. A large number left for financial reasons. Covid was the turning point.

Always loved Bangkok since the day I arrived in 1962. Friendly people. good food, loads of fun. Just watch your money.

Herpes cure with gene editing makes progress in laboratory studies

Fred Hutch virologists eliminated at least 90% of HSV-1 in preclinical models of oral and genital herpes and reduced viral shedding in a study published in Nature Communications

The Upside of Herpes — When One Infection Protects Against Another

In mice at least, Herpes provides resistance against bacteria, including the bubonic plague.

I certainly agree with you about life 20 years ago, but I think that applies to the entire planet, not just Bangkok.

But I also agree with you that Bangkok is an amazing city, and it's very easy to get lost in that place!

Posting in gigantic fonts does not change reality. Your cut and paste  does not  effectively support your claims. On the contrary it once again demonstrates the folly of uneducated  simpletons making assumptions based upon studies taken out of context,

In respect to the claim that herpes  specifically strengthens the immune system, the study you refer does not specifically support your claim. You have taken an observational study out of context. All that it showed was that in laboratory mice the  murine gammaherpesvirus 68 or murine cytomegalovirus was observed to provide (mild) resistance against (some) bacteria.  Mice are not humans. The immune system must deal with multiple threats from viruses, fungi, mold, parasites, venoms and  environmental immune triggering substances. The study did not prove protection against the aforementioned, nor a broad spectrum bacteria response.

The biochemical actions that result from  the presence of the herpes viruses  are studied in respect to the development of a VACCINE to prevent HSV infections. The biochemical reactions and the byproducts observed are also observed with other latent viral infections. The herpes research relies in large part on the advances delivered by HIV and cancer research. The study did not demonstrate the benefits of infection by these viruses.  The study  was in 2007.  If your claim was true, we should all be innoculated with HSV viruses to create  robust immune systems.

It is wonderful that you have  have copied and pasted a reference to a Hutch press release. Did you read the.study? Do you even understand what was written? Yes, it is a promising study result and good news, but the study is very  clear on the limitations of the potential treatment.

1. Mice were used. They have a VERY DIFFERENT response to  HSV infections than humans. Specifically, they do not demonstrate the same latency of infection. In order to trigger a reoccurrence of the infection, immunosuppressants must be used. This introduces a limitation on the treatment. Did the treatment counter the immunosuppressant or did it counter the herpes virus? The Hutch researchers recognize this limitation.

2. The meganuclease therapy uses enzymes to edit genes. The side effect is liver toxicity. The dose needed to  induce the gene changes also has side effects that can damage other tissue with the liver toxicity the most pronounced. In plain language, the cure can be worse than the infection. It's like Trump's theory on injecting bleach into humans to kill the Covid virus. It works, but it also kills the human.

3. Other options involve vaccines that involve less toxic mRNA therapy. However, we all know the opposition you and  your kind have to mRNA therapies.  It is laughable that now you embrace meganuclease therapy which  has far greater adverse impact than mRNA therapy.

Yes, great strides have been made to delivering an effective treatment for herpes, but we are a long way off from delivering the product. Animal study results are still years away, and with the recent cuts to the NIH, it is unlikely the USA will see any new research until the Republicans leave  office. Even if there was a product available, clinical trials would be 5-10 years. You are offering false hope to people when you claim that there is a cure, or that a cure is  a short time away.

Stick to regurgitating Trump Truth Social posts and leave the analysis of health research  studies to people who have the education and cognitive ability to comprehend the studies.
