In a rather unusual incident in Pattaya, Thailand, an Israeli tourist brought about an embarrassing scene after defecating in a taxi, leading to a dispute that required police intervention. Initially, the tourist offered 300 baht (approx. £6.75 or $9) in compensation, but the situation was ultimately resolved with a settlement of 1,500 baht (about £33.75 or $45).

The Thai taxi driver, Norraphat, aged 32, alerted the authorities when he encountered trouble settling the matter with his passengers near a shopping mall in northern Pattaya.

Officers from Mueang Pattaya Police Station arrived to find Norraphat in a heated exchange with an Israeli man. Interestingly, the man involved in the dispute was not the one who made the mess. That individual was across the road, noticeably still unclean and supported by a walking frame.

Norraphat recounted the experience, explaining that he had picked up the duo near the shopping centre for a ride to Soi Buakhao in southern Pattaya. His journey took an unpleasant turn when a foul smell alerted him to the fact that one of the passengers had soiled himself inside the taxi.

Promptly, Norraphat pulled over to clean his vehicle and demanded a cleaning fee of 1,500 baht from the foreign passengers. However, they only offered a sum of 300 baht, prompting the driver to call in the police to mediate.

According to Amarin TV, the officers managed to broker an agreement, persuading the Israeli tourists to pay the entire 1,500 baht, mitigating potential escalation and allowing both parties to go their separate ways.

This incident is yet another in a string of troublesome encounters involving Israeli tourists in Thailand. Earlier this year, four Israeli men were fined 3,000 baht each for causing a disturbance at a hospital in the country's north.

In November of the previous year, a Bangkok motorcycle taxi rider faced a similar situation where a passenger allegedly urinated on his seat mid-journey. The rider, suspecting drug use due to the passenger's appearance, opted to end the service to avoid further issues.

These occurrences serve as a reminder of the behaviour that can unfortunately turn the ‘Land of Smiles’ into a place of unwelcome surprises for some locals and visitors alike, reported The Thaiger.

If this was really a story about "misbehaving" tourists of any nationality the car pooping would have needed to be intentional. No evidence of that here.

Just a thought..........

Personally I don't think the 1500 demand was so unreasonable but I understand that many people would.

I wonder what the charge would have been for puking all over the place.

Presumably this mess was more localized and covered.

OK, here goes nothing.

Imagine if someone (or even you) had such an accident when out and about in Pattaya.

Stuff happens. We're all human.

So if you didn't have your own vehicle. how the hell would you get home?!?

Obviously an accident, should have paid the 1500 straight away

If he knows he can be taken short like that then he should be wearing an adult diaper,

I have not done that but I know, if I have not had a <deleted> then I wont go out until I have had one, because I know once we get out and moving around I will need one soon,

Exactly, it is a sad case of an elderly incontinent man having an accident in a taxi..... and what seems to be a very unsympathetic reaction by the driver.

It was fortunate the guy had a friend to assist him....

The taxi driver gets my sympathy, it's still daylight from the picture and no matter where the passengers are from he's left with a clean up job nobody wants, the cars going to need a thorough cleanout causing him to loose the best part of a few hours fares, if not the whole night.

Do that in any country in the world and I'd expect to pay a decent amount in compensation for loss of earnings, and cleaning fees.

the 300 b they offered: they should do this in Israel and give the driver 300 b only, interesting to see what will happen!

1500 b not to bad for cleaning someone else's poop, medical cause or not, it's still poop!

It would probably be around the 3,500 baht mark in Israel

A London cabbies official charge for soiling is £60 + the fare around 2500Baht but they would have had a good chance of having a Jewish cabbie, oy vey.

What difference would the religion of a taxi driver make? oy vey!

I put the oy vey in especially for the Israeli's among us.

Should tourists be advised to negotiate a poop cleanup fee before  entering a taxi?

Then when you poop in a taxi there are no surprises.

Agree but the friend should have been more reasonable regarding the amount of compensation.

The driver will loose time and fares dealing with the clean up..

That's dumb.

The language of Israel is Hebrew.

Not Yiddish.

Again I think focusing on the nationality of these tourists is irrelevant and indeed inflammatory.

Quite possibly so but there are things we don't know that may have influenced a perceived fair fine for the incident. The smell of course. Needs airing out. But we don't know the volume of fecal matter if any that landed on the car seat  If none or a small amount with no stain it could be that 1500 was highway robbery. Or if it was a huge mess with hard to remove stains 1500 would be generous. So it DEPENDS.

You're implying this unfortunate accident was intentional.

Haven’t heard much from them since when the Brit who took a dump in the street in Bangkok last year.

And then took a bath in the spirit house and was hosed down by a security guard.

I agree mostly. I think the really guilty party is the way the story was written. Making something from a normal accident.
