Ferret/Marten or Mink

Recommended Posts

Is there anyone here, preferably who lives in Thailand, the rest of you may not really know about this. But I see from time to time here in Isaan, something that looks like a Ferret/Marten or Mink. but according to google, these animals are not here. Has anyone had a hunch or seen something similar, and maybe know what animal it could be??

Thank you,

Maybe a mongoose. We saw one today near our hotel in Sarakham and maybe 3 others over the years.

And I wouldn't it one of these down my trousers. (Northern Brits joke)

Yes why not, I only have seen them on let´s say60-100 meters so in detail is hard to say, but this looks really close to what I have seen (latest today)....

Thank you so much....

I live in a rural area NE of Mueang Surin and have seen what you describe crossing the road 50 meters from my house. It's dark brown/black with short legs and ears with a tail about half its body length. Maybe a weasel.

Thank you,

I've not seen any of these, but I'll look out for them now.  I'm in Mahasarakham and someone has seen them here so I should be lucky.

I've kept many ferrets as pets abs even some of those would be dangerous down there

Both the Javan Mongoose (Herpestes javanicus) on the left and the Small Asian Mongoose (Herpestes urva) on the right, taken out of their local Isaan habitat and imagined in a world of fairy tales by means of todays AI. Can not confirm I saw them during the last three decades. No pineapple fields in my neighborhood.
