Phuket Developers Advocate Infrastructure Boost for Tourism Hub
File photo for reference only In a bid to address infrastructure shortcomings and meet the growing demands of Phuket's booming tourism and property markets, local operators have submitted a white paper to the Phuket governor. This proposal focuses on the Cherngtalay area, an increasingly popular region on the island, underscoring the urgent need for enhancements to public facilities and transport systems. Crafted by C9 Hotelworks, a hospitality consultancy, the white paper was developed in partnership with key stakeholders. It provides a comprehensive assessment of the current state of Cherngtalay, highlighting demographics, traffic congestion zones, and ongoing real estate developments, including a robust pipeline of hotels, residences, and commercial projects. As of 2024, Cherngtalay hosts 3,863 hotel rooms with an additional 1,194 expected by 2028. Residential growth is even more pronounced, with 18,138 new units across 104 projects slated for completion by 2035, complementing the existing 14,000 registered residences. Current commercial ventures, like Boat Avenue and Porto de Phuket, alongside future projects such as Boat Avenue Lakefront, promise to attract major retailers, adding to the area's allure. Bill Barnett, managing director of C9 Hotelworks, emphasized the strain these developments place on infrastructure, noting the critical need for improvements. The report advocates for adopting a floor area ratio system to support higher density development and optimize land use. It also calls for the expansion of the Phuket Light Rail Transit System, including the introduction of bus feeder lines to improve connectivity and reduce reliance on private vehicles. To tackle traffic woes, the proposal suggests relocating power and telecom cables underground and expanding road lanes. Additionally, developing flyovers and bypass roads at key intersections, such as near the police station and Boat Avenue, would alleviate congestion. The paper also highlights the importance of sustainable urban growth, urging the expansion of green spaces and the addition of pedestrian and cycle lanes. These measures are designed to support not only the current demands but also foster a more sustainable tourism model for the future. By addressing these infrastructure challenges, Phuket aims to maintain its appeal as a premier travel destination while ensuring a high quality of life for residents and sustainable economic growth, reported Bangkok Post. -- 2025-04-17 -

Coolest bars in Bangkok
I also like Jack's Bar on the river. Quite / very basic but right on the water, normal prices, nice views. Sanwiched in between the Shangri-La and Oriental, five minute stumble from Saphin Taksin BTS. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293916-d2068476-Reviews-or30-Jack_s_Bar-Bangkok.html -

Thailand Faces High Road Fatalities as Songkran Safety Measures Launch
These data differ. Depends where and when they are collected. So reported data give an approximate figure only. But I agree it doesn't matter actually. Thailand is the most dangerous country in Asia when it comes to road fatalities.- 1
