Recent experience at Chiang Mai immigration office(90-day report & Retirement O extension)

Thanks for the report.  Am curious, though, why you didn't use the drive-up (or walk-up) window for your 90-day report rather than going inside for that as the outside window typically takes only a couple of minutes.  There they have only ever required to see a completed TM-47 and one's passport.

90 day in CM is done as part of your visa extension, no choice on your part.

Hi, thank you for your post.

Looks like a bit of misunderstanding here.

Yes, as you point out, I went to the walk-up window for 90-day report, straight away(without stopping  anywhere else).

This time, I could do both 90-day report and visa extension on One Same Day(as the dates coincided in the convenient way).

I went to the 90-day report, while on the que of the document inspection(for Retirement O extension).

I wonder if  all sounds clear now?

on my last extension in early Feb., CM Imm. did not automatically do my 90-day report.  I used the drive up a few days later.

Yes, 90-day report is one thing.

And visa extension is Another.

Even if both can be done on One Same Day.

But  2 cannot  be done At The Same Time.

Must be done One by One...

They always give me a new 90 day when they stamp my extension.

I've done extensions and 90-day reports here in CM for almost 15 years and they have always been independent of any annual extension based on retirement (i.e., they've never done anything  TM47-wise when I applied and received annual extensions based on retirement).  I accept that this has happened to you here in CM as you say it has always happened to you.....but that's the first time I've ever heard of that happening to anybody (again, referring to annual extensions based on retirement).

I got my extension on  Wednesday.....After driving out I noticed that I hadn't noticed my 90 day was due 3 days later....It cost me another 50k round trip from home....

If I had glanced first I could have grabbed a TM & used the drive up in less than an hour.....The walk up was about 12 people deep.....

Immigration was swamped.....

Just another day.....

Ok, it might be different for those of us on family extension.

It happened to me in both 2022 & 23. Last October I included a 90 day notice form pre filled out, as I assumed a 90 day notice would be processed along with my Non – O extension based on retirement, (non family) as it had the previous years.  Wrong again. This year they handed it back to me. Never assume anything about CM immigration.

It worked just fine - until I traveled out of country = hasn't worked since....

First 90 day after returning must be done in person. After that online works. They even send me reminder email.  YMMV.

Yes, I did that & it still wouldn't approve.....I rechecked my info = ok.... Subsequent tries also failed....CM immigration is usually a packed zoo, so I hesitate trying to get any personalized assistance.....I live closer to Lamphun, which is smaller & easier..... Unfortunately, I'm locked into the CM office.....

Although I rarely submit 90 day reports, pretty sure you can still mail it in to avoid the crowds.

Also, though I've never been, I understand from reports on here that the drive through lane at CM Immigration is the optimal way to quickly submit your 90 day report in person.

Yes, I do use the drive up....

It's very convenient....They also take walk ups at the same (side) window....It had a line with 8 or more people waiting.....

My drive in is relatively easy....

If I lived in Pai or MHS it wouldn't be much fun....
