I mentally time those transactions at 7/11s and food carts. Typically takes 3X as long as I do just paying cash. Bonus of QR is you are giving away valuable info on your spending habits etc that can be sold for a pretty penny. No one would care where my money goes, but I'll be darned if I let those banking types get it for free

3X as long using a QR code?  Yea maybe on a good day....I walked out of a 7-11 the other day because the lady in front of me in line was taking ages to get her pay by phone to work...I finally just left.....

The only places I use the bank to pay, is when I can tap my bank card (Lotus and BigC), OR payments in a busy 7/11 are a pain if you are in the line.

Also, please don't wait till the cashier asks for the money, before you decide to get your wallet or purse out from a bag.

Have the money ready ffs

Three days go I spent 25 minutes standing in line, second person waiting, at Makro.  Back and forth the cashier went to the customer service desk.  I was in the 20 items or less line.  My butter all but melted.

People don't realise that the more they use this system, the closer it brings everyone to a cashless society whereby the government will gain all control on your bank account.  In China if your "social credit score" suffers, they've got you buy the balls.  No ice cream for you.

Why can't they just use a debit card ,show it to the card reader  job done ,when I am back in the UK that is about all I use now, takes a bit of getting use to paying for a pint of beer using a card, I use to always have UK cash here for trips back ,now it is about 40 GBP ,for that just in case time.

Last time I was in the UK, someone in front was using they mobile phone to pay for some shopping, but it would not work, I thought I was back in LOS for a few seconds.

Because a debit or credit card will cause the merchant to pay a fee. The Thai QR Promptpay system is free to use under 5,000 Baht and even then a sliding scale of 2 Baht for up to 30,000, 5 Baht for 30k-100k, and 10 baht for over 100k. It's incredibly cost effective for people to accept money, especially for those small merchants every day.

The QR system in Thailand is awesome phenomenal advancement when you consider how much is being skimmed by bank fees, or card schemes elsewhere.
