Hi everybody.

I am currently on an ED visa (language school for learning thai). It was obtained through one of the places where I didn't have to attend to class. In fact I don't even live in that area anymore but just meet them every 2-3 months to go with them to immigration and get a new stamp.

Now my current stamp is also the last stamp and will finish on april 24. My plan is to make a border bounce with a company to Satun border to get the 60 days visa exemption.

My question is: Do I have to do anything before april 24 about the ED visa. Like going to immigration and cancel it? I have read some stories dated a few years back saying that you should get a letter from the school and take it to immigration so they can cancel the stamp. But what would happen if I don't do anything and just make a normal border bounce?

It's cancelled when they stamp you out. You should also be prepared to speak Thai whenever you enter the country again. I had a few ED visas a long time ago. Even years after, the immigration at Bkk would flip through my passport and stop at the ED visas and start speaking to me in Thai. I was glad to get rid of that passport at renewal time.

Officially, you must cancel it when your situation changes, which is what you signed when you applied for each extension.  That means you must cancel it, even if it is ending, or you may be limited from getting another long-term visa or extension in Thailand again.  If you don't plan on getting one of those, then no issue.  Otherwise they could block you from getting one until you cancel it, and then fine you 500 baht per day, up to 20,000 baht maximum for failing to do so.

Yeah they all know the ED visa given to all them under 50 years of age is just a long term pass to party more and meet more gf's........😉, tougher to obtain now I would imagine or are the ED visas still for sale ?  😄

I'm surprised that the ED visa racket is still alive and well, considering that there are now "unlimited" visa exempt border runs as well as the DTV available as alternatives.

But in any case, yes, you should get your current extension properly canceled at the immigration office that issued it before leaving. Just tell your school/agent and they can facilitate it for you.
