A crash occurred in Rayong on 8 April when an SUV lost control on a bend and crashed into an oncoming lorry, resulting in the death of the SUV driver. The incident was captured by a dash-cam and is now under investigation by local authorities.

 

At approximately 11:00, Lieutenant Colonel Raksathat Phetchom, Deputy Investigator of the Pluak Daeng Police Station, received a report of a fatal collision at the Kawa curve, near the Plearn restaurant, on the Pluak Daeng-Suphon Road in Pluak Daeng District. He immediately dispatched officers to the scene.

 

 

Upon arrival, police found a large white Isuzu six-wheel closed truck on the left side of the road, coming from Pluak Daeng. The truck had damage to the front bumper and door, with pieces of the SUV attached to it. Approximately 10 metres away, the black Ford Everest SUV was overturned. The driver of the SUV, a foreigner later identified as Mr Gregory Michael Bastien aged 56, nationality not disclosed, was found dead at the scene, half pinned under the vehicle.

 

Nearby, a Honda Wave motorcycle, which had been following the truck, was also involved in the collision. The rider, 24-year-old Visanu Swat-saen, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Bangkok Pluak Daeng Hospital. His passenger, 20-year-old Kanakorn Promhan, also suffered injuries and was taken to Pluak Daeng Hospital for treatment.

 

The lorry driver, 49-year-old Amnuay Anok, described how his vehicle was struck by the SUV as it veered off the road, causing the crash. He said the SUV’s collision with his truck caused it to flip over and land on top of the driver, killing him instantly. The motorcycle that followed also collided with the overturned SUV, resulting in injuries to both occupants.

 

Police are investigating the incident further.
