China Super Tariffs: Will they destroy popularity of iPhunes and other "designer" gear?

Dear Folks,

Will overpriced Apple products finally GO AWAY, or at least be made far more expensive in the US market?

Or, do you hope so?

And, are not more utilitarian phones and laptops FAR MORE appealing than those made by the Control Freaks at Apple, in San Francisco, or wherever?

I really don't like Apple because young people treat these devices as status symbols, among their young friends.

It goes against my grain, and I think this is partially responsible for the continuing downward spiral of youthful intellectualism....just sick!!!

So maybe Trump's tariffs on China will have many unanticipated positive consequences.

I hopes so.

But, is this likely?

Thank you, regards,

Gamma

If still made in China, but bought in Thailand, why would the price increase here? Unless Thailand puts tariffs on US goods, I can't see why it would happen.

I must admit I was surprised to see you bring up iPrunes, thought I was the only one still taking those. A bit pricey for dried fruit, but I swear by them. Just two before bed and the next morning I’m as regular as a Swiss train schedule.

I do hope tariffs don’t affect them. There’s already a shortage down here and I’ve had to resort to those knock-off prunes from San Francisco. They don’t move me quite the same way, if you know what I mean.

regards,

Firm believer in fibre

The ultimate aim of Trump is to have all those trillions of US dollar reserves held by China, Japan and the EU be converted from US Treasuries and spent investing in, or buying from the US.

That's the undeniable end game - well, that and trying to devalue the USD to make America more competitive internationally.  This will lock in the future of the USD as the international reserve currency, especially because the only other viable currency would be the Yuan, and Xi would rather cut of his own testes before he would allow the Yuan to be the reserve currency. Instant civil war.

Trump owns the bat and ball, and he ain't going home any time soon - it's not even the bottom of the first innings yet. :coffee1:

I think the cult buyers of Iphones are getting ripped off currently.    But, they are so addicted they will probably buy them at $3,000.

So, buy an IPhone, go to Starbucks take photos you living the dream superstars.

Which very few countries will now do given that he has proven himself to be totally unreliable and a financial wild card.

They would prefer to see the USA rot and perish before doing that!

Yes.

Just DESIGNER gear.

Utilitarian and opensource is far better.

There are just so many restrictions with Apple garbage.

But, you are correct, that it is a cult.

And, this has nothing to do with the technology, or very little.

The Chinese youth has completely bought into this cult thing, status thing.
