Bill Maher had a surprise dinner with President Donald Trump at the White House, which he described as a more relaxed and self-aware version of the president compared to his public persona. Maher reported that Trump acknowledged their private conversation would not change his public image, and that he would continue to criticize the administration in his commentary. The dinner, which was also attended by Kid Rock and UFC CEO Dana White, was described as going well.

Dubious is gonna dubious.

That was an interesting part of Maher's take on the evening. He thinks that IF the Trump he met could be the same when in public.... things would go differently.

But TBH I have heard the same from many sources. Trump, in person and at ease without cameras around, is a genuinely funny and charming guy. He has the ability to make people relax and is shockingly genuine. It was fascinating to hear Maher say that he wouldn't have felt nearly as at ease in a dinner with Obama or either of the Clintons, even though he voted for them and aligns with them politically. I guess private Trump is just comfortable in his own skin and stops being a politician.

.While psychopaths can pretend to be friendly and charming for a short time, their true nature is aggressive. Psychopaths are more likely to hold racist, sexist, or misogynistic views toward others, and treat people in malicious or unkind ways.

Just proof of what I have been saying.... the only people more despised than Trump are the dems because they are always so nasty and negative.

Right you are .More justification of why they/ them

have a 20somethin% favorable rating!

A Bunch of useful village  idiots,

4 more years pause and the other brain dead install “I can’t think of anything I would do differently”.

...and lives to tell the tale. Bill Maher, a vocal Trump critic, had dinner with the President and spent several hours with him in the White House.  His impressions were rather surprising and I am sure disappointing to those who cannot stand Trump:

What would you expect? He is just a tad more intelligent than the average liberal douchebag and always thinks he is always the smartest man in the room. The atypical pseudo intellectual.

Ah yes those appalling cabinet picks like Bessent, Rubio, Ludnick....not to mention the terrible policy of cutting illegal immigration by 93%, deporting alien criminals, halting the social cancer of DEI, and bringing more than a trillion dollars of investment.

Truly terrible.

Not a fan of Bessent or Ludnick but could be worse.. Rubio is what he is .. I'm talking Kennedy, Hegseth, Patel, Gabbard for a start, throw in McMahon given her role ..so many other positions .. start with Bongino.. removal of so many good people.. so much experience lost at the top and throughout a range of departments .. implications still to be felt

Not everything bad as Maher said - aspects of immigration, some extreme gender and other stuff that was never a big deal in the scheme of things but fascinates and disturbs an obsessed Maga crowd, but lots and lots and lots of bad that has been discussed in numerous threads such as the tariff debacle that seemed to bore Maher but is a huge deal of course...

The "buffoon" persona is just an act. Maher has been one of the most vociferous Trump critics over the years, but he is smart enough to understand that this angle doesn't work, and to admit that there is more to the guy than what has been shown in the media. There are quite a few people here who would be well advised to pay heed:

Maher praises ‘gracious and measured’ Trump after White House visit

“I went into the mine, and that’s what’s down there. A crazy person doesn’t live in the White House, a person who plays a crazy person on TV a lot lives there, which I know is f—– up. It’s just not as f—– up as I thought it was,” Maher told the audience.

“That’s my report. You can hate me for it, but I’m not a liar. Trump was gracious and measured. And why he isn’t that in other settings, I don’t know, and I can’t answer, and it’s not my place to answer. I’m just telling you what I saw, and I wasn’t high,” he concluded.
