A promising mission scheduled for next week could represent a significant turning point in the quest for peace in Thailand's conflict-plagued Deep South. Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai announced plans to visit the provinces of Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat on April 26 and 27. This visit is expected to be crucial in shaping a final peace strategy.

"This discussion may be the final one before a conclusive strategy is drawn up in coordination with the strategy department. The details will then be reviewed and officially announced," stated Phumtham. The upcoming talks follow collaborative discussions between Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, reinforcing Malaysia's role as a facilitator in ongoing peace negotiations.

"Thailand welcomes this support in the interest of restoring peace," Phumtham added, highlighting the Thai government's commitment to resolving a conflict that has afflicted the Deep South for decades.

During his visit, the Minister will meet with local business operators, district chiefs, police officers, and personnel from the Internal Security Operations Command to acquire grassroots insights critical for finalising the national security framework.

Phumtham also noted that the composition of Thailand's peace talks committee is still under deliberation, with strategic directions for the three southern border provinces yet to be finalised.

A pivotal proposal under consideration would lift martial law in four districts of the region, following Cabinet approval during a recent mobile meeting in Songkhla province. Implementing this change would signify a major shift in easing military oversight in areas traditionally subjected to stringent security measures.

"I would like to reiterate that the resolution of the problems in the three southern border provinces is progressing," Phumtham reassured.

With thousands of lives lost over two decades in the insurgency affecting Thailand's southernmost provinces, there is growing optimism that Malaysia's support and Bangkok's renewed political resolve could pave the way to lasting peace. As the region braces for this crucial mission, the potential for a new era of stability and security looms closer than ever before, reported The Thaiger.

Muhammad had a peace deal, a 10 year one with the Meccans he could not defeat. The sneaky terrorist built his forces up and attacked them again by surprise as soon as he could defeating them. Muslims do not keep peace deals and see appeasement and compromise as weakness to be exploited

The usual sugar coating it's been a Jihadist terrorist campaign, not an insurgency and muslim terrorists have killed over 6 thousand Thais

No mention of meeting with the insurgent Malay Muslim organizations and to resolve a place plan. That's like going into a boxing ring having one fighter resolve peace with the referee. The other fighter is not invited into the ring.

Muslims do not keep peace deals

Do your research. Wikipedia alone covers a substantial amount of history related to the history of the Kingdom of Patani.

The decades Malay Muslim insurrection was due in part to a reaction to the Kingdom of Siam (Thailand) breaking its peace treaty with the sovereign nation of the Muslim Kingdom of Patani, forcing the annexation of Patani into the Thai Buddhist Kingdom and suppressing its language, religion, customs, traditions, etc. as second class citizens.

I know this, also that wikipedia gives this, they cannot be trusted, lived with or believed unless they get their own way

According to Fondapol, a French think tank, between 1979 and May 2021, at least 48,035 Islamist terrorist attacks took place worldwide, causing the deaths of at least 210,138 people

I wonder which plane can carry more bombs, the Gripen or the F16.

Wrong generation of aircraft to compare for todays market as the F16 is past it's sell by date!

Gripen is faster than the F35 and has longer range but smaller payload and a much faster and cheaper turnaround and operating cycle!

PS; don't forget the latest French Rafale!
