2.5 Baht per minute calls to U.S.A.?

The page https://www.ais.th/en/consumers/package/international/international-call/00500 shows the rate of 2.5 Baht per minute for calls to the US for AIS Postpaid customers. Has anyone used that service? Does one need to apply before using it?

I used it years ago - Just dial the 00500 before your outgoing call to get the rate. 

 

FYI - 2.5 baht/minute is 7.5 cents, which isn't a good deal. I use Yolla, which is 1 cent per minute. Yolla lets me set my caller ID for my USA number so the banks recognize my incoming calls.

Use WattsApp, LINE etc.  They're free and many banks have LINE accounts now although they don't advertise that fact.

Yolla is great. Especially to landlines 0.01aud a minute.

How do you call a landline or mobile on LINE and WhatsApp?  Not uncommon for elderly family members to not even have a smart phone, PC, or internet.

It's $0.0195AUD a minute, so close to double the price you claim.  Perfectly fine for the casual user, but for the more frequent user, a provider that offers a subscription with unlimited minutes is better. 

 

Also, Viber has the free video and voice calls, the same as Skype.

Depending on where you call home there are Many VOIP services that can reduce your phone bill by a lot. I have one in the US and it costs $$8.95 a month including 500 minutes of out going calls to anywhere in the USA and unlimited incoming calls from the USA so I have my US phone number and my Thai number. Just an option.

Call centric and on my mobile phone I just downloaded a Softphone app, which was either free or a one time small payment. It’s nice to have family and friends call my US number and get ahold of me here and I use it to keep in touch with them. If you are back visiting in the states you have no extra fees at all. I do pay a penny or two for voicemail but that’s optional. Good luck

What does this even mean? Teams is the new Skype. Viber is another product and not the cheapest. There are alternatives. MyTello comes to mind, but there are others also.

The installation process would be fine for me, but some older folk, or those not so tech minded, may struggle with the install.  However, nothing wrong with putting forward all alternatives in these Skype threads.

What it means is, Viber is the closest, and I'll say that again, the closest alternative to Skype that I can see.  Simple as that. 

 

It's a simple download, across different device platforms, and is a one stop shop like Skype. 

 

Viber has all the features of Skype.  Free voice and video call, pre paid credit / minutes that do not expire, single country unlimited subscriptions, and multiple country unlimited subscriptions.

 

I did not say Viber was the cheapest.  I said it was the closest to Skype that I could find.  If you know of something closer, please post it, but it's not MyTello.

 

MyTello does not offer unlimited subscriptions, and does not offer free voice and video.  Many members like to see their kids and grand kids.  Not to mention, their calls to Australia are expensive when compared to other providers.

Viber is the closest product to Skype I could find.  It functions the same way, and has all the same features as Skype, and very competitive pricing. 

 

Microsoft Teams looks and feels nothing at all like Skype.  I will not be using Teams.
