In a dramatic rescue that could have been straight from an action movie, a courageous Pattaya police officer made headlines by scaling a fourth-floor balcony to save a seven-year-old girl left alone in a locked flat. This incident showcases the bravery and quick thinking of local law enforcement in the face of emergency.

The tense situation occurred at a residential block on Phratamnak Soi 4, where the young girl found herself trapped and attempted to climb across balconies to find help. Police Lieutenant Corporal Witoon Thammachat acted swiftly, scaling the building to reach her and ensure her safety before any potential mishap could occur.

Witoon's daring actions earned him significant acclaim, culminating in a formal commendation from Pol. Col. Anek Sarathongyu, Superintendent of Pattaya Police Station. Under the Royal Thai Police’s Doing Good Deserves a Reward programme, initiated by Commissioner General Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, Witoon’s bravery was duly recognised, reinforcing his status as a hero in the eyes of the community.

The young girl emerged unscathed, and Witoon's heroics have garnered widespread admiration online and throughout Pattaya. However, he is not the only officer showing exceptional dedication.

In a quieter but equally impactful role, Officer Wallop Tasanathanapong of the Nong Yai patrol unit has dedicated himself to supporting struggling families in the Klong Phlu subdistrict. Known affectionately as a “silent hero,” Wallop uses his patrol car as a mobile relief van, stocked with essential supplies such as rice, adult nappies, milk, and blankets, which he distributes to the needy out of his own pocket.

Every month, Wallop takes it upon himself to deliver hope and dignity to the elderly, bedridden, and impoverished residents, often drawing from his own salary to fund this compassionate mission. His generosity has left a lasting impression on those he aids, such as locals like Ek, who acknowledges Wallop’s unwavering kindness toward his mother.

These two officers exemplify the bravery and benevolence that exists within the Pattaya police force, offering a glimpse of hope and humanity in a city often under scrutiny for less favourable reasons. Their actions shine a light on the community's spirit, driven by courage and compassion.

I was staggered by the headline in praise of Pattaya police.  Having read the story, I am full of praise for the two officers who are a credit to what a police force should look like, whilst showing up, in stark relief, the remainder of the shirkers.
