There is no purpose

Spot on. There is none.

Except for the purpose you choose to give it. Most people choose to give their life the purpose of easy pleasures, good food, sex, film entertainment, shopping and so on. Alas, these are all fleeting enjoyments.

Some people choose to give their life purpose by living for family. A family that ultimately leaves them, as the children pursue their own lives, and quarrels with them.

I see now a new fashion, many young people choose to make self-improvement the purpose in life, to become better than others.

It's a good question with many answers.

Simple. Procreate the species in order to satisfy the demands of the selfish genes that lies within every living thing. (The Selfish Gene, Richard Dawkins)

Human beings bucked the trend set by nature, by  learning to talk, think and write and thus got themselves all screwed up.

"Life is so phenomenally intricate, that even if you look at it for 10000 years you will still not know it in its entirety."

So a bit like the stock market.

What's his take on the 25 year bear market do you think?

But all joking aside, a superb clip, everyone should watch it. Thanks for sharing this.

I am currently mentoring an Indian boy, and I am amazed by his humanity and innocence. I find Indian cuisine superb, Indian philosophy powerful and Indian spiritual teachings the best in the world. I am amazed how little Indians are rated in the world, perhaps the most underestimated people of all. A clear case of a book being judged by the cover, not the content.

If there is no 1 purpose we can create a different purpose yearly. So we have self control. That's exciting.

i  was into sadghuru for a while.

interesting, but also confusing and abstract and contradicts himself ...

he's an intelligent guru maybe, but lost and confused like everybody else.

Indeed and I love Sadhguru's advice to explore every facet of this life we have. What a sage advice. Such a great clip and well worth the time to watch it in its entirety.

That's the issue with spiritual stuff. How do you apply it to daily life? Best to start slowly.

Why do you answer your own Headline question, with an answer?

You really have to apply it to daily life. For instance when Sadhguru was asked about the meaning of life he SHOULD have said "It is to do what needs to be done".. To  make your breakfast. To empty the trash. To work. To make your woman's life better. To do the things, that need to be done.

This would mean that you have to decide what needs to be done. And then you have the discipline to do it every day.

The answer will be different to everyone. But I think Sadhguru said as much when he told us to live every possible aspect of this life we have. This is of course a lot deeper than just saying you have to do what needs to be done. But ultimately that is the purpose of life.

I think we need fun goals though. Eating and cleaning is a bit dull. We need goals but we need to not get upset if it doesnt happen. Be joyful regardless. He argues life is about joyfullness. Be happy then good things follow.

Excellent point. So you don't just need to do what needs to be done, sometimes you also need to do what does NOT have to be done.

In fact boredom is one of the premier problems in life, it ruins many relationships. Having fun is very important.

You made an excellent point.

He is a very intelligent man and his answers are deep and a cut above most other people's, but of course he will make mistakes at times . Like his claim to solidify mercury. Nobody can be 100% accurate at all times. Even Newton thought he can turn iron to gold.

That did not invalidate the theory of gravity, nor do Sadhguru's errors invalidate his excellent insights on many other things.

I think you need 3 types of goals. 1 basic tasks to complete to function. 2 life improvement ie investing or skills. 3 fun goals ie scuba diving or drive mhs loop.

But if you fail at some goals don't worry about it. Move onto another set of goals.

That's broadly accurate, I suppose it varies with your age. At the beginning you try and learn the basic tasks to function, how to cook, wash clothes. Then you have to learn the skills, work or investing or anything that enables you to obtain money. Then you may get obsessed with sex and want to explore that. Then you may want to focus on getting a house. Then you look at hobbies, Kendo, archery or other fun things.

I suppose at each age you have a different focus. I imagine as you get very old staying healthy will become a main goal.

The purpose is to create the perfect man. Each man must find his own way, through his own deeds, to Heaven. Failing which he will be sent back, reborn to try again.

I spent my life drinking beer and chasing girls,.... the rest I wasted.

Way I see it, God created me the way I am and saw fit that I ended up in Thailand, the land of beer and pussy. What did he expect was going to happen?
