Following the news from the lovely 'Family Friendly' resort of Pattaya each week has convinced me - Pattaya is a great place to live..............NOT!

From all indications, a trip to Pattaya is almost a wish to be stabbed, assaulted, or shot!

On a guess, I'd say the victim knew his attacker, and it wasn't random at all.

I've always felt safe, even out at night, though TBH, not out that much at night in touristy areas.

If the knife belonged to the assailant then this is not a simply road rage incident.

There is a serious nutter at large.

It seems just being in Pattaya is grounds enough for getting into serious altercations. Every day we read about another beating, stabbing, attack by motorcycle taxi drivers, ladyboys beating up another foreigner, etc., etc.

We've lived here in Chiang Mai for 25 years and haven't even been stabbed once!

You haven't lived.

A security guard from a neighbouring condominium told police he saw the victim returning from a convenience store on his motorcycle when he was suddenly ambushed by another foreign man on a motorcycle.

So many bad foreigners in Thailand !! I wonder about his origin

Statistically it isn't.

I agree with you, my years in LOS, I got broken into twice, had a unit burned down, got threatened with a shotgun by my FIL, got attacked by Soidogs, and I did not live in Pattaya or Phuket.

You most definitely married the wrong woman. Men jumping into relationships without taking enough time to get to know her and her family a recipe for disaster I've seen so often here. If you don't get along with her family, if you don't like and respect them, there's a much higher chance a relationship will fail.

While I generally agree with that, it seems like those who associate with ladyboys have a much higher chance of getting robbed or assaulted than those that don't, especially in Pattaya.

Why? Have I married the wrong woman? I have been married for 22 years now, my wife did not break into our house or burn down our unit, and she is no soidog either. And I get on with the Thai family very well.

So please explain if you get along with the father-in-law so well why did he point a shotgun at you? That's fairly unusual behavior for a tight and affectionate family.

Good on you and good on her, my guess is that the mourning was very minimal.

We moved back to the West years ago since my wife has a well-paid job as a nurse, but we still spend our holidays in Thailand.

I don't think Thailand was ever considered a safe place for foreign tourists.

The Brit FO report I read suggested a Brit on holiday in Thailand was 20x more likely to die than in any other country.

That is correct, One factor that got it 'the less than perfectly safe ' classification was road accidents, of which Brits suffered along with others. Reckless motorcycling and minibuses have always been a danger.

I've been here for 20 years and never actually seen a fight, despite living in a tourist area! I would also say that in my home town in the UK I could see a fight in the City Centre every weekend!

Seen loads of them in a similar period! Agree with UK likelihood though.
