So Musk launched the biggest batch of Starlink satellites to date and land his reusable rocket onto a drone ship out at sea. Whether you like him or not he is providing the future to you. One day Starlink will be the largest communications company on the planet. I can see a day we don't bother laying FIOS anymore. I have a Starlink for my camper and it is better than the residential service I get. It is a bit expensive and once the price can come down this is the future.

Tried several times with the link, no idea why some links aren't hyper links.

I forgot to add he now has his own city in Texas named Starbase. I am curious to see what kind of city he designs. I bet it will be pretty cool and a low crime area.

I've lived in a company town before. Generally <deleted>ty places. What outsiders think of it will be irrelevant as it will be offlimits to them.

American definitions of "cities" are strange. This place is barely a hamlet, and nearly everyone is an employee of Musk.

As the newly formed city prepares for growth, the implications of tech-driven city-building are already coming into focus. Starbase could set a precedent for other tech companies to follow suit, creating private cities with their own governance and rules. While the move offers SpaceX greater flexibility in planning and development, it also raises questions about the power companies could wield over local communities.

Local officials, including Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino, Jr., have expressed concern about the centralisation of power. Trevino has stated that the county government has worked well with SpaceX so far and that there is no need for the city’s new authorities to have control over public areas like the beach.

Another proposed bill aims to make it a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by up to 180 days in jail, for anyone refusing to evacuate the beach during closures. Critics argue this would further consolidate control over the land.

Today, the area surrounding SpaceX resembles a scene from a science fiction film. The town is dotted with futuristic manufacturing facilities, rows of nearly identical houses, and even a large bronze bust of Elon Musk. As SpaceX plans to increase the number of launches from five to 25 per year, the city’s governance will play a key role in shaping the future of the region.

Someone didn't like the statue of Musk

Starbase company house. Yeah, predictable design. Think 1950s not 2050s.

Seahaven comes to mind. Everyone in identical houses, with Tesla roofs, company grass, company blue chippings, all the same Tesla cars. Look like they are built on the cheap looking at the cheap poured concrete drives.

Mr. musk did not land anything. The skilled  technicians and engineers  achieved that.

Point of fact. Musk didn't do anything. His employees did all the work. So the headline does noed amending to avoid a false impression about the true distribution of efforts and talents.

It's like saying the conductor of an orchestra didn't do anything. Musk is the guy that put all of this together.

As far as the other comments about a company town knowing Elon this place is going to be like nothing else before it.
