A 31-year-old food delivery rider lost his life in a road crash on the evening of 4 May, after his motorcycle collided with the rear of a fishing boat on a trailer parked along a roadside in Chanthaburi province.

 

The deceased, identified as Mr. Rattaphon had recently married and was working as a Grab Food delivery rider to support his family. According to reports, he had just completed his deliveries for the day and was en route home when the fatal collision occurred.

 

The incident took place around 22:00 on Raksakchamoon Road, outbound from Chanthaburi city, near a local barbecue restaurant in Tha Chang subdistrict. Mr. Rattaphon’s Yamaha Grand Filano motorcycle crashed into the rear of a fishing boat mounted on a trailer, which was attached to a Toyota Fortuner SUV. The impact caused severe head injuries, resulting in his immediate death at the scene.

 

Emergency responders from Sawang Katanyu Chanthaburi Rescue Foundation and medical personnel from Phra Pokklao Hospital attended the scene. The rider was found still seated on his motorcycle, wearing his Grab Food uniform, with his delivery box secured to the back of the vehicle.

The driver of the SUV, Mr. Sunthorn stated that he had been towing the fishing boat from Koh Chang to his home in Chachoengsao province. He had parked the vehicle by the roadside to dine at the nearby restaurant. While eating, he heard a loud crash and discovered the motorcycle lodged beneath the trailer.

 

Mr. Rattaphon’s wife arrived at the scene shortly after the crash and was overcome with grief upon seeing her husband’s body. She collapsed and required assistance from rescue personnel. She later revealed that they had been married for only a few months.

 

Police are conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision. The body was transported to Phra Pokklao Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Sounds like it might be true, or had an after work session with his fellow delivery riders before going home. Anyway, once again, I assume he didn´t have and think a helmet would have saved his life. Hopefully he didn´t leave any children behind.

As pointed out in another thread just yesterday by 'Peabody'....   This is seems to be getting more and more frequent such that its a daily occurrence. 

 

The below comment was made just yesterday and we have yet another incidences of someone killing themselves / getting killed with a vehicle impacting a stationary object that could easily be avoided if one was simply paying attention.... 

 

... The lack of self preservation on the roads here is astonishing.

 

Daily occurrence. A local [Chanthaburi] emergency responder regularly posts on FB for the accidents she attends, not rare for a fatality like this one during a night shift; so many are single vehicle accidents - mostly motorscooters, second place to pickups, the racing D-Max drivers who lose control at speed.

 

When my daughter did her driving school course for her licence, she was told that on average there is one road fatality every 24 minutes. Don't know how accurate that is but possibly not far wrong.
