A mild earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale struck Nakhon Si Thammarat at 5.31am on May 7, prompting swift action across affected areas as residents felt the tremors and heard loud noises. The quake's epicentre was located in Sai Ra subdistrict, Chawang district, occurring at a depth of 1 kilometre.

 

The Thai Meteorological Department's Earthquake Observation Division pinpointed the quake’s coordinates at 8.448N, 99.56E, about 82 kilometres northeast of Mueang district, Krabi province. The tremors were felt in Sai Ra and Na Wae subdistricts, with residents in Kaphiat, Mai Riang, and Huai Prik reporting loud sounds.

 

Somdet Phra Yupparat Chawang Hospital and nearby residential flats experienced the tremors, prompting immediate evacuations as a precautionary measure while officials assess any potential damage.

 

In the aftermath, the Nakhon Si Thammarat provincial Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has issued warnings for residents to remain alert for possible aftershocks. Local emergency teams and administrative bodies are closely monitoring the situation, ready to respond to any developments.

 

Efforts are underway to inform the public, aiming to reduce panic by providing clear guidance on safety measures. The provincial Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is actively updating the community on the ongoing assessments and measures being taken to ensure public safety.
