Pattaya has launched a campaign to reclaim its streets, targeting individuals and businesses illegally reserving public road space with cones, chains, and bins. Led by Mayor Poramet Ngampichet, the city's municipal officers are actively clearing these obstacles, seeking to make roads accessible to everyone.

 

This initiative, part of Mayor Poramet's broader policy to combat urban chaos, underscores the need for fairness and cleanliness in public spaces. Recent actions have seen officers removing obstructions from areas known for such intrusions, including Central Pattaya, Na Kluea, and Soi Sukhumvit 45. These regions have long been plagued by entities treating public streets as private parking lots.

 

Motorcycle rental shops have been identified as notable offenders, accused of cluttering pavements with motorbikes and promotional signs, transforming public walkways into de facto private showrooms.

 

The crackdown has elicited mixed responses from locals. Some residents have applauded the government's efforts, appreciating the return of public spaces. "I’m glad the city’s finally doing something, it’s about time," remarked one local. However, others urge for more stringent measures, advocating for harsher penalties or legal actions to deter repeat offences.

 

As the campaign progresses, the city hopes to reduce illegal space-grabbing, ensuring that Pattaya's streets remain public and accessible for all, not just a select few.

It won't last long. South Pattaya road is back to parking both sides and the Kasikorn bank is lined with motorcycles. Last weeks crackdown.

Yawn, you get so tired reading about the next campaign.

Then you drive down beach rd and see hundreds of rent a bike occupying most of the left lane.

Same for some Sois like Soi Post and others.

Same story again and again. It's a Mafia town, a country with little policing what can you expect.

    This week's 'look we're working' stunt.   As others have said, won't last.   There needs to be a core of traffic police handing out stiff fines on a daily basis, year-round.   Spouse and I drove down that street behind Home Pro that leads to Big C Extra the other day.  There's a wide blue line for wheelchair users--big fanfare when it was unveiled sometime ago.   Anyway, the wheelchair lane was mostly blocked by parked cars.   Typical.

To help maybe they should remove signs outside businesses that claim street parking as only for their clientele.

Just tow all the vehicles, and increase the fine to get the vehicles out of impound, and arrest the people/business owners illegally using the public way as private.
