Do you really think it out of the question the administration will blame this on DEI? 2

Sometimes, GPS is not enough. You need to take into account high and low tides at different days of the year. Obviously, the navigator on the Mexican vessel had never heard of Bowditch. Or maybe, he was looking at the chart for San Francisco, and the Golden Gate bridge. They don't call them tall ships for nothing, ....maybe...

I'm sure that the Captain and officers were properly trained and certified but the ship was not under command as it approached the bridge, due to what looks to be the main engine stuck in reverse gear, taking the ship fast astern. There was at least one tug close by, I assume to assist the vessel off the dock and out into the channel. I'm just surprised that they were not connected together with a standby tow line, at least until the ship was clear of the bridge and underway ahead, so that this incident might have been managed and avoided. 1

The clearance required for this tall ship should be taken into account when assigning berths.

Quote Traditionally, most sailors through the 19th century couldn’t swim. The British Royal Navy preferred it that way because men who could not swim had more incentive to remain on board and keep the ship afloat. Life vests of that era were also discouraged because a square-rigged ship sailing downwind wasn’t coming back to find an overboard sailor in the frigid waters of the North Atlantic. So, why prolong the inevitable? Closer to shore, life vests were denied to prevent non-swimming sailors, some of whom were conscripted from city jails, from escaping their imprisonment. https://americansailing.com/articles/swim-to-sail/#:~:text=Traditionally%2C most sailors through the,and keep the ship afloat.
