Video Delivery Rider Assaulted in Bangkok's Sukhumvit Soi 93: Investigation Ongoing
Picture courtesy of แตก Facebook In an unexpected incident on May 28, a delivery rider was assaulted near a motorcycle taxi stand in Sukhumvit Soi 93, Bangkok. The altercation, caught on video and circulated widely on social media, unfolded at 11am, surprising long-time community members. Somkit, a veteran motorcycle taxi driver with 30 years of experience in the area, expressed disbelief over the violence, noting that disputes over parking spots are typically settled peacefully through dialogue. He speculated that there could be deeper motivations behind this particular clash, as aggressive behaviour is uncommon among local drivers. Kom, a nearby vendor, recounted that, while selling goods at his stall, he observed the rider being asked to move his vehicle, which obstructed entry to a dormitory adjacent to the taxi stand. Although Kom did not witness the entire confrontation, he heard repeated requests for the rider to relocate his vehicle. He later learned a skirmish had broken out, attributing it to a likely misunderstanding. Another local, known only as A, offered more perspective, highlighting that while tensions sometimes flare due to differing dispositions among the rider community, significant issues are rare given the bustling nature of the area. She suggested that the usually calm alleged assailant might have had a specific reason for their actions on that day. Efforts to contact the alleged attacker at their Soi Phung Mi 50 residence were futile, and the injured rider could not be reached for comment. The Phra Khanong Police Station superintendent indicated that legal proceedings are pending, contingent on a medical assessment of the rider's injuries. Although initial talks for compensation have begun, the police remain hopeful for an amicable resolution, as there has been no further communication from the involved parties. This incident underscores the importance of maintaining calm and addressing disputes amicably amidst the pressure of an ever-busy urban environment. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Thaiger 2025-05-29 -
