Crime Gruesome Murder in Nakhon Sawan: Body Found Stuffed in Drum Dumped in Reservoir
UPDATE Murder Suspect in Drum Killing Surrenders After Family Reveals Hideout Picture of reenactment courtesy of Matichon. A murder suspect who had been on the run after allegedly killing a man and concealing his body in a 200-litre oil drum has surrendered to police following a tip-off from his own relatives. Paravee Charoenphrom, 35, was wanted in connection with the killing of Jutaphet, also known as “Auan”, whose body was discovered stuffed in a drum and dumped in the Huai Yai reservoir in Takro subdistrict, Phaisali district, Nakhon Sawan province. The manhunt ended at 11:00 on 29 May, after police received crucial information from Paravee’s family members, who revealed his hiding place in the mountainous area behind the Pa Khao Khieo Vipassana Monastery. Police tightened the cordon around the area, prompting Paravee to surrender under pressure without resistance. Paravee had been in hiding since 27 May, managing to evade capture for two days. Police, in coordination with local units, had surrounded the area and brought in Paravee’s mother and elder brother to persuade him to come out peacefully. Pol Maj Gen Narewit Sukonwit, commander of Nakhon Sawan Provincial Police, stated that the suspect fled as soon as he became aware that a warrant had been issued for his arrest. Upon his surrender, Paravee reportedly admitted to acting alone in the killing. According to initial police interviews, the murder took place at a farm hut in a sugarcane field in Khok Charoen district, Lopburi province. Paravee claims that he found Jutaphet trespassing on his property and attempting to steal a solar panel battery. The confrontation turned violent, leading Paravee to fatally shoot Jutaphet. He later consulted two friends, identified only as “Beer” and “Mam”, regarding the disposal of the body. While Paravee and Mam have been officially named as suspects, Beer remains under investigation. If sufficient evidence emerges, formal charges may also be filed against him. Police say a detailed forensic examination and further questioning will determine each person’s involvement in the concealment of the corpse. Pol Maj Gen Narewit added that Paravee had another outstanding criminal case and feared imprisonment, which is why he chose to flee. He described the motive as a mix of anger and long-standing grievances against the victim, who was allegedly known for aggressive behaviour in the community. The case remains under investigation, with charges expected to follow upon completion of the interrogation process and forensic analysis. Adapted by Asean Now from Matichon 2025-05-30. -
