A garbage collector in Bangkok’s Bangna district made a harrowing discovery on the morning of 3 June, after finding the body of a baby girl wrapped in a towel and placed inside a black plastic bag at a condominium on Soi Lasalle 30.

At approximately 10:40, rescue volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation were alerted by Bangna district sanitation workers after one of them stumbled upon the body during routine waste sorting inside the condo’s designated rubbish area.

The baby, believed to have been around eight months gestation, was found fully formed with the umbilical cord and placenta still attached. Authorities believe the infant had died within the previous 24 hours. The remains were wrapped in a white towel and placed inside two layers of black plastic bags before being discarded.

Officers from Bangna Police Station, together with forensic specialists, were dispatched to the scene to conduct an investigation. The baby’s body has since been sent to the forensic department at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

At this time, the identity of the mother remains unknown, and police are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking with residents and staff at the condominium in an effort to trace her.

What i can not understand is that Bangkok has places to get abortions legally. Why the girl or woman chose not to do this within the first few months of pregnancy is beyond me. Clearly she knew the implications and signs of being pregnant.

But to leave the baby after birth in a trash bin should constitute murder. I hope they find the mother and discard her the same way she discarded the child.

You're not thinking straight, your mind is foggy.

I'd say, more than likely the boyfriend was supporting her at the time, lying to her, saying he loves her and her unborn baby then before birth he takes OFF, never to be seen again.

What causes a human being to do such a heartbreaking thing.

Guys are not accountable in Thailand for getting these girls pregnant.

These sad stories will continue until the government supports these girls.

In the west the government would provide social security and welfare payments (thousands of dollars after the birth) for these young mothers, government would garnish the fathers wages, the woman may be on maternity leave, she has income but sadly in Thailand these very POOR young woman (girls) have no money to support herself and her baby.

Most times the father has abandoned her, these girls have no one to turn to for support, sadly they make wrong decisions in life.

Shame on Thailand for not providing for these young mothers.

I've seen similar stories in the west on many occasions.

Yes, agree, it happens in the west.

I'm sure we would see the occasional sad story in Thailand even if the government gave support but would be far fewer

Well, we do not the trauma or situation the mother was in, perhaps she had no money to get a legal abortion.

We don't know the facts.

Most girls, the majority know who the fathers are but nothing can be done to get support from them.

The fathers who abandoned their child, abandoned the mothers, these guys need to be strung up, these are evil men.

could be prohibitive for many. maybe they don't want the parents to know.

Legal abortion clinic in Bangkok just off Sukkhumvit road cost almost nothing. There are only 2 or 3 clinics like this sponsored by the government. I know this for a fact.

Between 4000 and 5000 Baht. Not small change for many young Thai women.

Those clinics are not free.

It is possible she simply could not afford it.

That is not clear at all...unless you know her.

Clearly, it should not if the baby was not murdered.  Stillbirth is not murder if that was the circumstance.

Perhaps it wasn't the man's fault, for all that is known, she may have been a right trollop making out with every man she comes across and no idea who the father may have been...an unsavoury consideration but one that could be reality.

Prosecute him for a non-crime?   How does that work?

getting a girl pregnant and running off should be a crime if it isn't already.

who will support the child? if mother can't, the worse case scenario as above takes place. even if she keeps the baby, it may be a struggle to support it.

it's a highly irresponsible act.

you can go to jail for stealing a pack of cigarettes in a 7-11, but not for ruining someone's life?

If you know that "for a fact", what is the cost?

It isn't, it isn't a crime under any jurisdiction.  Why should it be unlawful for the man, perhaps the woman, who assumes 50% of the responsibility, should be just as liable in your imaginary legal system.

You are not Thai... so you do not really know I guess. Most Thais can get and use their 30 baht scheme to see doctors and get treatments.

Yeah thats not insurance.

UCS (30-baht scheme) can be used at government facilities... there are very very few who perform abortions.
