Planning Isaan Roadtrip…

You clearly haven't been everywhere in Isaan.

Stick to under bridges.

Seriously though what does Isaan have that you can't find near Chiang Mai? CM has more temples, more waterfalls, more caves, better food, better nightlife. The road trips near CM have lots of scenic views. Most of the Isaan roads are flat and boring. Only Loei is similar to CM.

Most Thais say Isaan is boring. Paddy Doyle has been to every province and he says Isaan is boring.

Stick to languages fool.

Dependes what you like, but when seen a temple, a few views from a hill down the valley, some rock formations, you seen it all, but the nice thing, is to be moving from a to b, especially on motorbikes, and when you add the dirt roads it starts to get really interesting and challenging to get from a to b sometimes, as well find proper stay for the nights. Mostly in north the most spectacular sceneries, but Korat, Chaiyaphum, Loei, Petchabun, and Bueng Kan (Bueng Kan/Bunkan) have scenery places worth visiting, but seriously not up against North Thailand where there is endless roads and tracks.

However, the whale rocks is one of the few things worth heading for except just going for a trip and having a good time.

Isaan has 4 major rock formations. 3 whale, Udon one, Mukdahan one and Pha Taem. All good but all spread out.

Bueng Kan has a nice waterfall as well.

Chaiyaphum has nice driving.

But compared to CM only Phetchabun and Loei offers similar views.

You got the "Stone Henge" But agree, a few nice parks with view, flower park which blooms right now, and it is okay. Better to visit some of the flower festivals in the north.

The problem with making things up is you need to remember what you've already said.

You've contradicted yourself more than once. Stick to the truth, you won't make so many mistakes.

Does the Roi Et tower appeal?

I go to Roi Et regularly, been to the tower.

Nice aerial shot 👍

Doesn't do the lake any favours, it's normally a nice colour blue.

I enjoyed the tower and lake but was bored after 2 days.

Yes, Roi Et does not have that much to offer but I must go regularly. There are a couple of waterparks, fun but novelty soon wears off, Robinson's and nice restaurants, that's about it.

I usually fly up once a month to see the girlfriend, she's living with her family at the moment after we had a big argument back in February.

Udon and KK i can enjoy for a week. Other places don't have much to offer.

It depends on how you define boring. I personally love the nature with mountains and hills in northern Phetchabun and Loei. I have visited many places there which are completely unknown to the locals. When showing my photos locals cannot believe that this is in their own province.
