Thailand's Department of Corrections is set to follow the Supreme Court's orders regarding any imprisonment warrant for Thaksin Shinawatra.

On 13th June, the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Political Office Holders scheduled a review concerning the enforcement of Thaksin Shinawatra's prison sentence.

Thaksin, the former Prime Minister, will not personally attend the court as no summons was issued for him. His legal representative has confirmed attendance to provide further details.

Discussions among legal experts and political analysts suggest this could be a landmark case, reminiscent of the historical case involving Jatuporn Prompan, a former political leader. Jatuporn was previously subjected to a reinforced sentence following a re-evaluation of his case regarding unfinished jail terms.

The Department of Corrections has clarified its position, reaffirming that it will adhere to court orders as in past cases like Jatuporn’s, where a repeat incarceration was mandated.

Regardless of the type of warrant issued—be it for detention, imprisonment, release, or summons—the Corrections Department is tasked with enforcing court decisions.

For Thaksin Shinawatra, the Department is awaiting the Supreme Court's directives. Should a custodial sentence be ordered, the Department will execute the ruling according to the specifics detailed by the court.

If deemed a finalised imprisonment case, applications for release cannot be pursued, unlike cases under trial that allow for bail applications.
