There is a cute little gecko that must have been in my apartment now for at least a few weeks.

Ocasionally I see it on the kitchen counter, but then it scurries into corners .... out of sight.

They are fast. So how to catch it without harming it?

I just want to let it loose outside.

They are harmless, right? It won't crawl into my ear at night and eat my brains?

Depends upon the size. We get some pretty big ones here over a foot long including tail. We had a large one that used to come out on one of our wooden house supports to eat the insects at night. I had the bright idea of trying to catch it. I went round the back of it and managed to grab it around the neck. Took it up to show the wife the prize but it just went limp.

I put it down on the floor and the bugger was just playing dead, it was up and off like lightening into our wardrobe. Luckily / unluckily it didn't completely manage to hide itself so I made a grab for it to let it go outside - The damn thing turned on me like lightening and bit me on the thumb. Whilst not exactly a terrible pain, there was a lot of blood, and trying to get it to let go was a monumental task trying to prise its jaws open. Tough little buggers, great for getting shot of insects, only downside is the bloody racket they make in the middle of the night.

I use a long extended handled broom. I sweep them off the wall and quickly sweep them into a dust pan. You have to vigorously shake the dustpan as you run to the door and toss them outside. If you don't shake it hard enough, they will scurry right out.

Just leave it alone, and any tokays living in your house. They are beneficial. They eat insects, like mosquitoes.

Not sure if the above means you have very big ears or very small brains. Brains as in more than 1?

They are harmless.

No need to get them outside; feeding on bugs in your room and they are self-sufficient.

Also able to go out when they want; through the narrow gaps in various part of the building.

I prefer 100 times the useful geckos, rather then those deadly snakes that seem to be all over now. Laugh if you wish but in many parts of the world not known to be snake infested, snakes are showing up here and there. There are discreet campaigns in many European cities informing on the number of people who die from snake bites all over. Climate change mabe who knows ?

Don't grab it by the  tail it will come off in your hand, I've got plenty in my house, they dont bother me, haven't seen many lately since I sprayed thousands of termites buzzing around an outside light might have killed a few
