In a significant development aimed at safeguarding its citizens, the Thai military has imposed a ban on crossing the border into Cambodia’s Poipet township. This restriction affects Thai nationals employed in entertainment venues and casinos, with immediate enforcement starting Tuesday morning.

Maj Gen Benchapol Dechatiwong na Ayutthaya, who leads the Burapa Task Force based in Sa Kaeo, issued this directive to local immigration authorities. The prohibition is designed to address growing safety concerns for Thais working in the area.

The directive emphasises the temporary nature of the ban, which remains effective until the commander deems it safe to lift. Officials underscore the importance of this measure in securing the welfare of Thai citizens amidst regional tensions.

Simultaneously, this border restriction aligns with Cambodia's recent decision to halt imports of Thai fresh produce, such as fruits and vegetables, raising the stakes in cross-border dealings.

Pol Col Napatrapong Supaporn, the immigration police chief in Sa Kaeo, has appealed to Thai citizens currently in Poipet to return to Thailand for their own protection. In his statement to reporters, he highlighted the cooperation needed from Thai nationals to make the initiative successful.

The authorities are working to reassure the public that this action is a precautionary step, taken in response to potential risks in the Poipet area. The Thai government continues to monitor the situation closely, promising adaptability in its approach based on unfolding developments.

By maintaining open communication channels with Cambodian counterparts, Thai officials aim to resolve safety concerns swiftly and foster a stable environment that allows the border to reopen under safe conditions. Meanwhile, they urge patience and understanding from the affected workers and the general public.

What a load of hog manure. The kindergarten is far more East towards the Lao border along the Thai-Khmer border. The entire exercise is to ooze power on the back of those workers who will not be paid for not coming to work and hence get financially stranded.

This whole smokescreen in front of the mammoth fight between PT and BJT, specifically Thaksin and Anutin, is getting more and more ridiculous and is excellent soil for planting the next military coup.

Welcome to Thai interpretation of government, its diplomatic incapacity marred by face losing vs face saving individuals and their inferiority complex - shame on all of you!
