Why do most people NOT smoke weed even though it's legal?

After the 3 years of legal weed in Thailand, we can see that weed is still a very niche product. Not many people are using it. Many weed shops stay empty all day and  probably survive only because of the few regular customers.

Why is it so? Why do most people not smoke weed? Why are most people absolutely okay with alcohol, but not weed?

Did you think just because it was legal everyone would start using it?

Kinda pisses on those 'drugs are bad' idiots fireworks doesn't it.

In my local there are about 5 smokers. There were 5 before, but just did it at home.

"Some". But I'm talking about "most".

To be fair, there are very few people I know who haven't, at some point, done both and more.

Most people DO drink, at least in small quantities or occasionally. Those who never drink any alcohol are rare. But those who never smoke any weed are a majority. See the difference?

This may or may not be a popular opinion but........

I got addicted to kratom for a while...yeah yeah, I know..silly me. I was given it by my ex wifes dad. He ate it all day everyday. It was a bit of a boost with coffee and I started munching on the leaves throughout the day....bad idea....(bear with me I am getting to ganja) It didnt make me feel out of control or drunk in any way...it was a mild relaxing/ stimulant.

Fast forward a couple of years later and i tried to get off it. I had withdrawals and found it VERY hard to sleep. After a week of basically little to no sleep I decided to have a bit of weed to help me. It helped. I smoked every night for about 1 month.....then I decided to stop.

Here is the insidious thing about ganja. Yes, it can help you sleep and it WAS helpful for me......BUT!! while I was smoking it every night I  started to notice feeling not great during the day. I couldnt put my finger on it. I was kind of ok, functional but there was 'something' there. After I stopped something VERY noticeable happened. I had REM dream bounce back on a HUGE level.....and gradually, I started feeling myself again.

I dont care what bong heads say. There is something negative about smoking this stuff every night in that it KILLS REM sleep. I think longterm this must have negative consequences. There is a reason we dream, I dont know what that reason is but stopping it is NOT  good idea.

I think it should be legal and I still use it on occasion.

Weed was used in "spiritual practices" ie ceremonies.

People are misusing it today.

It wasn't meant to be smoked daily just to get a buzz.

uh huh, gatekeep harder, why doncha?

What, pray tell, was it meant for, and who made the decisions?

Legalization of soft drugs makes it easier to get involved in the world of drugs. And after that, some people easily move on and try harder and harder drugs.

nonsense. Legal or not, access to drugs has been effortless, especially since the sixties.

All legalizing something already mainstream does is encourage people to more publicly admit the behavior.|

They apparently used it for "religious ceremonies", but I guess it could be that they just wanted to get high and use the religious part as an excuse.

Not nearly as effortless as it is not, and certainly not without risk.

Legalizing something is no different from promoting it.

Using drugs in the '70s & '80s was not nearly as prolific as many people think. Sure, when you're a loadie, it seems like everyone is getting loaded, because most everyone you know gets loaded. Once you quit, you find out that there was just not that many people doing it.

Sorry, watched a few docs on cannabis but still not sure what to believe ... I dunno man.

I don't want to sound like I know what I'm talking about.

Most people either grow it themselves, buy it from someone in their village who’s growing it, or get it online from local vendors selling at much lower prices.

Indeed and after years and years of being criminalised for smoking many long term users have simply become accustomed to smoking discreetly at home. I know I certainly have smoking it in a bar feels to me as weird as drinking alcohol in the house. Certainly not everybody who smokes it likes to advertise the fact so essentially the OP has no idea how many people like to indulge   The same goes for all the useless surveys that have been commissioned over the years

I reckon any health benefits from red wine come from the grapes used to make it.  I doubt fermentation has much to do with it

Exactly, just eat grapes.

Also, I am considering to gravitate towards Kombucha to wean off alcohol.

Like when I go to a gathering, I literally want to bring some Kombucha with me while everyone else is drinking alcohol.

Athough I have not found any fancy Kombuchas here.

But back home, there are some decent flavors.

Like alcohol, it has some depth to its flavor and is a good drink for sipping slowly.

And it's good for gut health, as opposed to alcohol which messes with gut health.

Duh !!   Have you never , even for a moment , considered that 100 years of government anti cannabis propaganda, consisting almost totally of mis information and scaremongering nonsense may  just have had some influence. Not forgetting the unpleasant consequences of a drugs conviction,  "most" people whether you agree or not are very susceptible to that sort of thing and it will take several generations before its all forgotten

Ok, this broad is confirming what I was alluding to.

She separates weed smokers into 2 categories - one is the lazy stoner.

Then she asks this question. And this is what cannabis was used for by previous cultures. Not just to chill out and be spaced out and forget reality. Add to that that legal weed is apparently making people sleepy, so people are wasting their time.

Are you not the typical stoner? Do you use cannabis to think deeper, live better, and grow with intention?

Does the weed in Thailand make you sleepy?

She is claiming the legal weed is degraded compared to what people used to get.

There is a lot of weed around of dubious quality,  It is Thailand after all so it shouldn't surprise anybody

As to whether it makes one sleepy, well that's a question with a complicated answer. It depends on many things,

It can do depending on the weed itself, the mood of the user, amongst other things

I'm assuming  you don't smoke it yourself ?  But I would take most of what I hear about it with a pinch of salt there are a lot of people talking a lot of rubbish on platforms like you tube and tik tok

No, I don't.

I don't like putting anything in my body unless I know exactly what it's doing to me.

After researching weed, I'm still confused as there is a lot of conflicting information.

And I don't need to alter my mind.

I'm good to go.

That must be because of the "gateway effect"  people have obviously all moved on to "hard" drugs :cheesy:
