When you first started going out to bars while young what were your go to drinks?

Also, are you still drinking those drinks? If not, what now.

In my US locality the legal drinking age used to be 18 even though in the US it is usually higher than that now.

So I started going to bars at age 18 and really got into at big time starting at 19.

My bar going had two tracks. Going out to live music or honky tonk type places with straight friends. There I would order bottles of beer or draft. Usually Michelob, Heineken, or Budweiser.

Then there were the gay bars. I wouldn't order beer there. Instead my favored drinks were gin and tonics, Courvoisier Cognac, Greyhounds, and Sloe Gin Fizzes.  Hard to explain those somewhat frou frou choices now. Mostly not typical at all for a young man.  Don't drink any of those anymore. I smoked ciggies too to have something to do with my hands because I couldn't afford to buy lots of drinks. Fancy imported ones. Never got addicted.

I graduated later into being a lover of 100 percent agave tequila. The buzz is different and better but not really doing that anymore either. (Reminds me, I really should.)

Also good wines but gave that up do the the prices in Thailand.

These days it's all beer. Mostly San Mig Lite, Leos, and Beer Lao lager (and occasional shots of cheap vodka) at home.

Tap beer, Schmidt's Beer if they had, or what ever, usual Schaefer or Ballantine.  All 3 local beers for the Philly, Pa, USA area.

I upgraded to Michelob in high school :cheesy:  Nobody drank Bud, and Coors wasn't available east of the Mississippi River.

Didn't graduate to real beer, Ales, Pilsner, Stouts/Porters till about 25 yrs old.  Now, little to no alcohol intake.

European or American drinking habbits amongst teens are not the same.

In the US they will get high with a bucket full of Coors or Bud's.

In Europe, teens will go for the shots, vodka with mixer etc. as the rules and society in Europe if far more tolerant then some of the extremist laws in the USA.

Sorry, no offence please.

96% neutral grape spirit, vodka and homemade wine.

A friend of my brother bought 250l, and I bought 10l from him, where I split to 0,5L and resold

after I turned 18 I almost stopped drinking because of sport. Only partied after competitions or end of trip party. Mostly beer by then

Started off with lager beer and that's where I'm still at. All the big Thai brands are truly awful, but my taste buds are now so numb I can drink Chang draft if nothing decent (foreign) is available.

Beer Lao is great, some Cambodian brands are good and in Myanmar the Myanmar Lager is top notch. Thailand may have escaped colonialism, but it came at a price.😉

In the UK when I started my drinking apprenticeship I drank "bitter" and brown ale: Vaux Samson and Double Maxim, Newcastle Exhibition and Dog.

Newcastle is a great beer.

Whatever draft beer they had - or if at nightclubs, rye and seven. I got into my first pub/tavern at 15 with two same-age friends. We saw our first stripper that afternoon too. Age limit was 19 at the time - so of course the place was pretty rundown and sketchy.. but we thought it was great! Once of legal age I used to go with friends to a rough joint that was sometimes also patronised by biker gangs (Angels). Some were throwing their empties up to the ceiling to smash them...

It was. They changed the formula a few years ago. I've personally not had it since then but my friend in the U.K, swears it's not the same lovely taste it used to be.

I'm glad I didn't have to be the party pooper in this thread.

Smart people like Donny Boy don't drink!

My first beer in pub with my dad at 14 was a pint of stout and cider.

After a phase of gassy lagers with my mates in my teens and twenties I progressed to British Ales, mostly Fullers and Harveys.

Nowadays I'll buy IPAs or have a glass of wine or go down to the locals and have whiskey and the occasional Singha.

Belgian or German beers when I can get them.

My first beer was a Double Diamond.

Later I would drink anything and lots of it.

DD was palatable. I think it's still sold as Burton ale.

Actually, many people in high positions, rich, politicians, etc., don't drink alcohol. It's quite common.

True. I loved Vientiane with the smell of fresh bread in the morning, bistros, Belgian beer shops and even a chocolatier.

To get drunk it was Jack Daniels on the rocks, otherwise it was beer or mixed drinks like vodka and cranberry. I quit in 2007, now I drink an occasional beer, and NEVER get drunk. Life has so much more to offer when you are sober. All the details you miss when drunk, plus avoiding jail for drunk driving (been there done that)
