White gays hide it due to bigotry. Thais don't.

You don't know much about Thailand.

I probably knew more about Thailand before you even knew it existed, so assuming again, doesn't work. It's the same everywhere. Some flaunt it, most don't., everywhere. Ladyboys are more common here than most other countries,.........https://www.nationthailand.com/perspective/30252466 but gays in general are still looked at as having bad karma, seeing most here are Buddhists.  People hide it for many reasons. fear of being attacked, letting those close to them know they are from embarrassment because they might not accept them, applying for jobs in some places, and it's not a white thing only.

The two faces of Thai tolerance

Tourism authorities are trying to market Thailand as a 'pink' destination, but local gay and transgender activists say the campaign disguises a darker reality _ that beneath the veneer of public tolerance, conservatism and discrimination remain rife. ..In 2013, the Bangkok Post said that "while Thailand is viewed as a tourist haven for same-sex couples, the reality for locals is that the law, and often public sentiment, is not so liberal." A 2014 report by the United States Agency for International Development and the United Nations Development Programme said that LGBT people "still face discrimination affecting their social rights and job opportunities", and "face difficulty gaining acceptance for non-traditional sexuality, even though the tourism authority has been promoting Thailand as a gay-friendly country".

Which has nothing to do with what we're talking about. Remember, everything about Thailand has been in the news since we were in kindergarten, and media has shown more each year. Many living here have no idea what actually goes on outside their village, but research can find you anything about crime, culture, political issues, food, interests, climate, traditions, history and western influence here.

People who read know more. people who go by opinions aren't educating themselves. Part of that was from 2013, another from now. Easy to research instead of assuming, but that's your go to thing, which is yes, quite foolish.

You're full of it. Visiting Spain 50 times is better than reading 50 books on it. You know sweet stuff all I'm in CM. Been to Bangkok 65+ times. Had Thai friends for 25 years. I don't need to read books.

You do need to read books, as you go by assuming all the time here, which means you take other's opinions and run with them. Do you see how many disagree with what you say daily, that your replies are one liners intending to provoke, and you disagree with people who have proven you wrong?

A person can know quite a lot about a country without ever going there. More than a person that just goes on a vacation. Of course if you visit a country 50 times and don't just stay in one place you'll have more knowledge on it. You can learn more from a few books than being in a couple places for a week or two.

It's plain to see that you aren't a reader, and that means your knowledge on things is only based on personal experience and other's opinions, which is nowhere near what you can learn by reading. That you diss books shows you aren't willing to learn also, as most anyone knows knowledge comes more from the written word than other's opinions, which might be biased or having little experience themselves.

There are people who live in Bangkok who couldn't tell you where a certain street is, which happens all over the world. Being in a place doesn't mean you know it well, unless you're out there doing things all over for many years. I've asked people directions countless times, both here and back home, and they couldn't tell me where a place was that was 3 miles from their homes. Just like some that live here and have no idea the amount of violence that happens here daily. Your replies in this one topic are assumptions based on your opinions, thinking gays are the only ones who run after 10:30, that those who eat croissants are gay, and that you know if people are gay by looking at them. Ridiculous but it's you. Look at your thumbs down just here, and maybe you'll see it's a daily thing in all your replies. there's a reason for that that seems to be over your head.

Last century, while getting fitted for a suit at an old Chinese tailor's on Sukhumvit, down around Asoke, the old guy wanted to see my tackle. I naively obliged, and then he touched it briefly. He seemed quite happy with that, and I put it down to the language barrier and how Chinese tailors address the professional tailor's question of, "Which side do you dress to, sir?"

I've been to most cities 3+ times. Some 10+. I know far more than any author. A book is the opinion of 1 person. I've read Thai books and I know far more than any of them. Most of them are rather shallow. Paddy Doyle went to every province but I know half the cities better than him. He can't even pronounce some of the names correctly.

Some Thais never travel and can't read maps. That's why they can't give directions.

Chiang Mai has nothing to do with what I've been saying. If it's a gay hangout, along with the other millions who visit it, it still hasn't any bearing on your ridiculous comments.

Most what cities? All cities worldwide? All those in Thailand? All those in a 20 mile radius of Chiang Mai? You know far less than most people from that comment. People who write books, non fiction, are doing so from both personal experiences and from research.

The same you do, the same anyone else on earth can do.The difference being is they know how to write a book and you don't. You assume most everything you say. You do not personally know any authors and I'm guessing you've never read many books in your life, because your statements show this.

No one can say they know more about anything than anyone else they don't personally know extremely well, so your thinking you know more than people you've never met is again, ridiculous and false.

People who can't give basic directions of their home area are ignorant or quite possibly have never left their village enough times. You don't have to know how to read a map to say,"go three kilos straight, make a left at the temple, continue on 2 kilos until you see a shop on the right, turn right, then go 3 streets until you see a green house on the left. "

Just wanted to get some thoughts or advice from others here. I’ve been running at the 700 Years Stadium in   for a while now, usually quite late at night. Last night was no different   I finished my run around 10.30pm, tired, sat down on a bench near Gate 2 with my bottle of water and a couple of croissants. Bike parked nearby, same as always.

During my run, I actually passed a policeman cycling around the stadium. He was friendly, said hello, and I replied in Thai that I was out exercising. Said something like "yes, very hot running." He smiled and rode on. So I know there is some police presence there at night, which makes this next bit even more confusing.

Not long after, this Thai guy   possibly Chinese Thai   parked his own bike a bit further down the track, away from the main area. Then he walked straight up to me, sat uncomfortably close, and before I could react, suddenly hugged me. Full on, no words, just wrapped his arms around me. Completely out of nowhere.

Instinctively I shoved him off. He got the message, went back to his bike, and rode off.

I’ve seen all sorts of characters around that area, but never had something this strange happen before. I wasn’t shocked as much as just disgusted. I thought briefly about following him, but didn’t. No idea what he was on   possibly drugs, not acting normal at all.

Now I’m wondering what I should do. Should I have reported it to the police? Or to whoever manages the 700 Years Stadium area? Is it even worth reporting something like this? It’s hard to know whose responsibility it is.

Would be genuinely helpful to hear from anyone who’s had a similar experience or has practical advice on how to deal with something like this. Ideally, something structured   like:

Is it worth informing the police even if the guy's long gone?

There a security office at the stadium entrance, is it worth reporting?

Are there better lit or safer times to run there?

I usually run late because of the heat and it’s been fine up to now, but this really threw me off. Just trying to process it and figure out what to do next.

FFS you were hugged by a homosexual, you freaked out, and they left. Do you want them executed?

get the <deleted> over it.

im sorry you were disgusted, try taking a shower to wash off the gayness.

It might be "wordy" nonsense because you can't understand it. that's where more reading might help you. You, like a certain other two here, assume constantly, and I mean that in the strongest sense of the word. You do not, know anything about where I've been besides what I've said, and know nothing about where I go here. There are people who know a lot more about the moon than someone who walked a few yards on the moon and left.
