Bangkok's innovative approach to sustainability has been celebrated with two Design Excellence Awards (DEmark 2025). These accolades, awarded by the Value Added Promotion for Trade Office of the Department of International Promotion, highlight the city's dedication to blending art with functionality for a greener future.

Ekwaranyu Amrapal, the city spokesperson, announced the awards, proud to reveal that both the Yaowarat Road Identity Manhole Cover and the Greener Bangkok website received these honors.

The Yaowarat Identity Manhole Cover was a standout in the Environmental & Spatial Design category, recognized as one of only seven projects in this group. More than just a functional item, this manhole cover is a piece of art, capturing the essence of Yaowarat, Bangkok's vibrant Chinatown.

Created by a team of eight independent artists, including Jurit Kanwanphum, Dusita Warapongsittikul, and Ratchadaporn Hemchinda, the covers celebrate the rich history of the community, focusing on the lives of residents in Talad Noi, a nearby district.

The design process was collaborative, involving consultants like Wisit Techakasem and Somchai Kwangthongphanit, allowing the project to reflect the area's unique culture and spirit.

In another win, Bangkok's Greener Bangkok website was awarded in the Service System and Digital Platform Design category. Developed by Wandeedee Hub Co., Ltd., this website serves as an essential resource for environmental sustainability in the city. It offers valuable information and tools for citizens, organizations, and various sectors striving to make Bangkok more sustainable and livable.

With the award being one of only five in its category, it highlights Bangkok's commitment to green initiatives and public engagement in environmental causes.

These awards underscore Bangkok’s dedication to seamlessly integrating artistic design with practical use, while also paving the way toward a more sustainable future. By receiving these honors, Bangkok not only preserves its cultural heritage but also emerges as a leader in urban sustainability.
