Police in Ratchaburi province are investigating the mysterious death of a 43-year-old man whose body was discovered with his head submerged in a 200-litre water drum, in what is believed to be an accident.

The incident occurred around 11:39 on 27 June in Village 8, Ban Sing Subdistrict, Photharam District. Pol. Lt. Col. Uthis Laoha, an investigative officer at Photharam Police Station, responded to the scene along with investigators, a medical examiner from Photharam Hospital and members of the Sawang Ratchaburi Rescue Foundation.

The victim, identified as Mr Noppadol, was found with his head and upper body submerged in the drum while both legs were hooked over the rim. The water drum was only half full. No external injuries were discovered upon initial inspection.

Local residents told police that the deceased had been suffering from a mental health condition and was often seen wandering around the village. It is suspected that he may have been sitting on the edge of the drum when he lost his balance and fell backward, becoming trapped head-first in the water. Despite the water level being relatively low, he was unable to free himself and drowned.

Authorities have sent the body for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death, although early indications point to an accidental drowning.
