A 35-year-old computer teacher died on the afternoon of 5 July, after jumping from the fifth-floor car park of a well-known shopping mall in Bangkok. Authorities believe work-related stress may have contributed to the incident.

The deceased, referred to only as Ms A for privacy, was a resident of Nonthaburi province and taught computer studies online to children. She had visited the shopping mall in the Thung Song Hong area with her mother, reportedly to attend a bead-crafting class.

Police were alerted at approximately 13:00. Investigating officer Police Lieutenant Colonel Chairat Thamseema from Thung Song Hong Police Station arrived at the scene along with forensic investigators, a medical team from Chulabhorn Hospital and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation.

The victim’s body was found on the road behind the seven-storey mall, near an entrance area. She had sustained fatal head injuries. On the fifth-floor car park, police found her handbag, documents, and a pair of shoes, leading investigators to conclude this was the location from which she jumped.

According to statements from her family, Ms A had been struggling with severe stress related to an academic project. She had reportedly expressed to relatives that the pressure was so overwhelming that she “no longer wished to live.”

Her family believed she had been suffering from depression and had tried to console her in recent days. On this occasion, the family followed their usual routine: Ms A would attend her one-hour class while her mother browsed the mall or had a meal and they would reunite afterward. However, this time, Ms A never entered the class and shortly after, her body was discovered.

Initial assessments suggest no foul play, but the police have handed the body over to the Poh Teck Tung Foundation for transportation to the forensic unit at Chulabhorn Hospital for autopsy and further examination.
