In a significant crackdown yesterday, the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Bureau arrested 28-year-old Worapong during a raid on a cannabis shop in Din Daeng, Bangkok. The operation was swiftly executed, uncovering illegal substances including psychedelic mushrooms, cannabis-infused electronic cigarettes, and edibles.

The raid, led by Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom alongside Police Major Generals Nopasilp Poonwasit and Pallop Aemonla, followed a warrant issued by the Criminal Court on 8 July. Located at the entrance to Soi Intamara 44, the shop was allegedly operating without the necessary authorisations to sell cannabis products.

The police seized a variety of items during the search:

  • 371.32 grammes of psychedelic mushrooms
  • 157 boxes of cannabis-infused electronic cigarettes
  • 61 bags of cannabis-infused jelly
  • 83 cannabis brownies
  • 18 bottles of cannabis-infused syrup
  • Cash amounting to ฿1,500 (approximately £34)
  • Two mobile phones

This decisive action was prompted by a tip-off to Thailand’s Office of Illegal Tobacco Control, which had received complaints about the shop's activities.

Worapong, identified as the shop's caretaker and partner, confessed to managing the establishment. The seized items were deemed illegal under Thai law, leading to multiple charges against him.

He faces accusations of possessing a Category 5 narcotic without permission, in line with relevant Thai legislation. Additionally, he is charged under the Consumer Protection Board’s order No. 9/2015, which bans the sale of electronic cigarettes and associated products.

Moreover, Worapong is accused of breaching the Food Act of 1979 by selling food items without Thai language labels, as mandated by Section 6 (10) of the Act.

Following the raid, Worapong and the confiscated items were taken to Sutthisan Police Station for further legal proceedings. The operation represents a clear stance by Thai authorities against unauthorized drug sales, highlighting the ongoing efforts to regulate and monitor such activities within the country.
