A 61-year-old man has been left critically injured after being attacked with a sickle in a violent confrontation sparked by an alleged crude remark about a woman. The incident occurred in Soi Krungthep-Nonthaburi 3, Bang Khen Subdistrict, Mueang District, Nonthaburi Province.

Emergency services were called to the scene to find Mr Somchak, known locally as “Piek”, lying unconscious in a pool of blood outside a derelict house where he resided alone. He had suffered multiple severe lacerations to his head, right arm, knee and Achilles tendon. Medics provided urgent treatment before transporting him to hospital in a critical condition.

The alleged attacker, Mr Naruchart, 20, known as Kim, reportedly fled the scene on a motorcycle with his girlfriend, Ms Rungnapa, shortly after the assault.

Initial investigations suggest the altercation was triggered after the victim hurled a piece of wood at Mr Naruchart and proceeded to shout profanities, allegedly threatening to rape his girlfriend. Mr Naruchart, said to have been enraged by the threat, retaliated by striking the older man with a sickle.

Witnesses described Mr Somchak as a habitual drinker who, when intoxicated, often made inappropriate or provocative remarks, particularly towards women. Mr Pook 65, a neighbour, stated: “When he’s sober, he’s alright. But when he drinks, he becomes rude and aggressive.”

Mr Khunmee 59, the uncle of the alleged attacker, claimed that Mr Somchak had a history of violent incidents, including slashing his neck with a box cutter in a previous altercation. “He even went to prison for that. This time, he kept threatening and mocking my nephew’s girlfriend, it went too far,” he said.

A former associate of Mr Somchak added that he had experienced similar behaviour in the past. “He once got drunk at my house, started flirting with my girlfriend and even tried to touch her. She ended up kicking him. He had no boundaries when drunk.”

Police are now reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses in the area as part of an ongoing investigation. Officers confirmed that they are working to locate and arrest the suspect, who remains at large.
