A late-night street brawl between rival groups, erupted into gunfire on July 22, leaving one man with 20 shotgun wounds, but remarkably still on his feet.

At around 21:30, local authorities in Nakhon Si Thammarat received an emergency call reporting a mass altercation between groups of youths near Soi Talad Saturday, under the Napa Bridge in Chaimontree subdistrict. Police patrol units and rescue volunteers from the Pracharuamjai Foundation were immediately dispatched to the scene.

However, as rescue workers approached, a shotgun blast rang out, halting their advance due to safety concerns. After waiting a few tense moments for the situation to calm and as vehicles were seen fleeing the scene at speed, including a pickup truck and several motorbikes, responders cautiously moved in.

There they discovered 32-year-old Mr Saranyoo, also known as Rak, covered in tattoos and walking calmly despite having sustained approximately 20 shotgun pellet wounds to the upper body. He told rescuers he had been shot at close range with a shotgun. He was swiftly taken to hospital for treatment, reportedly in stable condition.

During police questioning, Mr Saranyoo stated that he had no prior knowledge of the shooter and had merely been present in the area when a dispute broke out between two rival youth groups, one local and one from outside the area. The confrontation quickly escalated, culminating in a single gunshot that sent people scattering in all directions.

Authorities have indicated they now have a lead on the suspect’s identity and are working to gather evidence and witness testimony to bring the perpetrator to justice.

The shocking resilience of the wounded man, seemingly unfazed by his injuries, added a surreal twist to an already chaotic scene. Investigations are ongoing.
