Kind of depressing that an article about the success of the women's team just has all the usual trolls out saying it's rubbish, not as good as men's (no one said it was), DEI, Labour, Labour, Guardian

  • So all these obese keyboard warriors who couldn't even kick a ball, and who were outraged by the guy punching women in the Olympic boxing, are now comparing a women's football team with a team of youn

So you think that only inferior people can be the victims of discrimination?

Fair point. You've stated time and time again throughout this thread how discriminated against you perceive yourself to be.

I'm not sure that's entirely consistent with your world view, Ray. 😆

My world view is seemingly more nuanced and less 'black and white' - oops, I mean monochrome - than yours, Jonny.

England men won the World Cup without needing penalties .

England Woman haven't won the World cup

England's men won the Football World Cup 59 years ago...  (thats two full generations ago !)....

The reality - both the English Men's and the Women's football teams have done really well in the past decade...

The Women have been more successful in achieving silverware.

Neither the Women's team success detracts from the Men's achievements, and neither does the additional power and speed of the Men's game detract from the Women's achievements.

Comments to the contrary are just idiotic IMO.

Not so much "fair", but "brilliant" if I may say so myself.

No I haven't.

It's not nuanced. It's hypocritical and based in fantasy. When analyzed it falls apart. Like most leftist views.

But at least we are agreed that a) the women's game is inferior b) men do not belong in women's sport and c) you do not need to be or feel inferior to be discriminated against. That's progress Ray. I expect more in the coming months as the leftist dogma of the past few years is rapidly debunked even further.

Just because you disagree with people, you dont have to call them names,. stick labels on them and be abusive .

My grievance here is that this coverage - and the equally overblown coverage of the EPL - is at the expense of the EFL, which is much more competitive and is thriving (attendances up in all three divisions).

I agree - and this is why there is a lot of criticism (woke call it 'hate') - the hype that is going to the WSL should be given to that which is more deserving - The EPL.  If it was just added on top it would be OK but it is not - it is taken away from other far more deserving sports.

I will agree to disagree about women's mental capabilities.  You need to live longer and with more women maybe?

You missed the point - deliberately & facetiously I suspect…

… there are 100’s of videos highlighting stuff-ups in sports, a lot of them covering men’s football…

… to post such a clip in the manner proton did simply highlights bigoted idiocy…

The women footballers are not as good as the men..  big deal…  until we get into the silliness of the woke commentary suggesting equality…

No, I was just pointing out that the player in the video slipped over due to having unsuitable footwear , so, it wasn't a mistake (as claimed)

So it wasn’t his mistake in choosing the wrong boots ???

… anyway, off-point… all players slip… part of the sport…

Obviously our thresholds for "brillance" are yet another thing we differ about

My apologies you haven't. I confused your posts with another member's.

You have 'only' used this thread about sport i.e. the success of the England Women's football team to have a dig about such unrelated subjects as the Labour party; 'wokeness', the (perceived) two-tier justice system in the UK and women footballers making political statements, while at the same time suggesting "Keep the politics, demands, complaining and Wokery out of it (sport) ...".

No Jonny, it's called unbiased analysis. There are pros and cons associated with almost all proposals. If I consider something to be logical and, in general, beneficial I will support that measure. I do not have an overly simplistic 'Black/ White' view of matters whereby anything originating from the Left; the EU; the Labour party, etc is automatically dismissed as 'bad', whereas anything proposed by Reform; Trump; the Right, etc is - by dint of its' origin - good.

Yes, nice to agree on something [ (a), b) and c)].

I fear that you may be disappointed about future developments but I remain open to persuasion. If only I could say the same for you.

Personally after watching most of it I thought Spain were the better team and should have won it.

..... not in my lifetime ..... not in most people's lifetime.  Having to go back to the Bronze Age to dig up a victory is just sad.

Trophies only count since AFTER you were born ?

Maybe we should begin again and change the year that you were born in to year 0000 ?

The statute of limitations for lamely using a sports victory to try and demean current achievements is 50 years.

Sorry, your tired boast about ancient British history has expired. 😅😅😅

Nowhere near schoolboy standard. Switzerland women were hammered 7-1 by an under 15's boys team in the buildup to this tournament. Was that Barcelona under 15's, you might ask? Was it the German under 15's national schoolboy side? No, it was FC Luzern under 15's.

Spain, the current Women world champions and eventual finalists could only edge past Switzerland 2-0.

That tells you a a lot about the standard of women's football. So please, no more women commentating on and critiquing the men's game. It's embarrassing.

And didn't the US women's football team get beaten by a Dallas FC U15 boys team 5-2?
