Gaza is under blockade and economically strangled, people are just trying to survive. It’s unfair to demand civilians under siege to risk everything unless there’s a viable alternative. Many Palestinians are deeply critical of Hamas, but others see it as resistance against occupation, especially when diplomacy has failed them repeatedly.  The blockade, military operations, displacement, and lack of sovereignty wouldn’t disappear overnight. Israel has repeatedly stated that eliminating Hamas is now a long-term goal, which would continue even if hostages were freed.
