Kumquat Trees

Featured Replies

I was talking to a friend from Chiang Mai today and he mentioned there is a place near Chiang Rai where I can buy Kumquat trees.

I made Kumquat marmalade in Australia every year, I have tried here using Manou but it is a poor competitor. What I want is some genuine Kumquat trees, does anyone know the place, apparently it is on highway 118, about 40km from Chiang Rai. Can someone be a little more specific?

I'm in C.Rai. I bought a kumquat tree from a Thai friend named Kat who has a plant nursery by the military base on the way to the MFL bridge. I no longer have her tel#. Although my tree is growing well (she said it will grow to be bigger than other types of cirtus) - the fruit is not very good taste. I've had kumquats in California and they have a lovely tangy taste. Mine are bland. It's a seedless variety. Though I'd rather have seeds and better taste. Maybe it's just because it's young, and later on it will have better tasting fruit - I hope so.

Considering that, try to taste some ripe fruits from a tree you're considering buying, before you buy it.

Also: I have a grafted 'blood orange' that hasn't yet yielded, though it's growing well. Hopefully in the future I'll be able to sell or trade cuttings - for others to use a scion grafts.
