Cotswolds Chaos: Locals Revolt Against JD Vance’s Visit

The tranquil town of Charlbury was anything but quiet on Tuesday as residents rallied against the holiday presence of US Vice President JD Vance in their picturesque Cotswolds region. Armed with signs reading "Go Home" and "Not Welcome Party", around 60 protesters disrupted the normally serene atmosphere, making their feelings clear.

Security was tight, with UK police and US security ensuring every road and footpath was covered. Jake Atkinson from the Stop Trump Coalition stated the protest was a direct message to Vance, driven by policies associated with US President Donald Trump, particularly on immigration and the war in Gaza.

Adding fuel to the protest, a black van with an edited meme of Vance circulated the streets, aiming to mirror the frosty reception the US Vice President gave to Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky in February. Lou Johnson, a long-time Charlbury resident, said, "We wanted to extend the same welcome he gave Zelenskyy."

Vance's holiday started with a political note, meeting UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy at the Chevening retreat. His agenda reportedly includes a visit to Scotland, echoing Trump's recent stay at his golf resorts there, reported the Bangkok Post.

Residents, taken aback by the extent of security, expressed their dissatisfaction. Phil Ball, a puzzled local, remarked on the disruption caused by a full motorcade for a mere vacation. "It's been quite a surprise," he confessed.

As artist Victoria Dawson critiqued Vance’s moral standpoint, she pointed out that the clampdown made the rural locale feel more like a lockdown. Lou Johnson also lamented the invasion of his beloved countryside by heightened security, insisting the village's reputation for tranquillity wouldn’t stop them from standing up for their beliefs.

With roads closed and police presence heightened, the local community voices a unified disapproval, highlighting tensions between American policies and British values. The protest showcases a rare but fierce defiance in this otherwise peaceful enclave.

Future visits by US officials may need to consider the strong feelings such appearances evoke, highlighting the delicate interplay between international relations and local sentiment.

You bumped into random people and they told you they were:

“very right wing, anti immigration, anti Labour, Pro Reform.”

LOL

Yep.

Small pubs over there you often end up chatting to pretty much everyone in there by the end of the night. Especially if you are with someone from the area who inevitably knows someone in there.

Well, unless you look like a weirdo of course, like the individual in the post above mine. Then it might seem impossible.

This is one of the most credible posts I have ever read!

I suspect random people in pubs avoid talking to you 😃

And you had the good fortune to happen upon loquacious strangers who just happened to express views identical to those you yourself scatter all over this forum.

60 people? A vocal minority of self righteous idiots one suspects.

I was in that neck of the woods last year (Witney) and pretty much everyone I spoke to in local pubs etc. was very right wing, anti immigration, anti Labour, Pro Reform.

These were just random people I bumped into while keeping my own opinions to myself. Some of them were so right wing that even I was taken aback. And not one of them was remotely worried about speaking their mind about it. 😃

The feelings are very strong out there and not against the policies of the GOP.

Small gaggle of karens. Probably Ellen's mates. Beggars belief the richest whitest women want more cultural enrichment. Why not just move to a city?

I know you find the idea of talking to real people in the real world strange, but some of us actually do it.

Like I said, my friend is a local. She bumps into someone she knows, introduces them and you start talking. Their mate shows up, they know the pub's locals. 6 pints later you're chatting to loads of them. It's called being social.

Best you stick to your anonymous identity behind a keyboard methinks. 😃

Witney is in Oxfordshire, not in the Cotswolds.

This is turning into a novel.

The idea of you socializing with strangers in the real world is certainly one of fiction. 😃

Probably trucked in from London, doubt that village has 60 people unless an immigrant hostel is there.

Let me re-phrase that, Witney is not in the Cotswolds AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).

As opposed to your anti-Jew , pro-Islam and pro-sexual deviancy advocacy that hardly anyone on the forum shares with you.

I’m not the one offering up such a remarkable coincidence of your friend introducing you to people who share identical views to your own.

Identical? 😃

Hardly. Most of them were quite a bit to the right of my own views.

I guess the views that don’t coincide identically with yours are in a later chapter.

Please no spoilers Jonny, In enjoy a good yarn.

Thanks for correcting your original mistake.

While that is absolutely fascinating, is there any relevance to the current thread?

Did anyone on the forum state that it was?

Much as it would have been interesting, I didn't meet any pro illegal immigrant, pro grooming gangs, pro men in womens sport/jails, pro Hamas communists like yourself.

Perhaps I was going to the wrong pubs? Pray tell, where can I meet your ilk in Witney? Is there an Antifa club down one of those dark alleys?

I’m quite certain you didn’t.
