The Met Police have charged 67 individuals, aged between 21 and 83, for allegedly supporting the banned group Palestine Action. All were nabbed in central London on 5 or 12 July and now face potential six-month sentences under section 13 of the Terrorism Act. The crackdown continues, with police arresting hundreds more for showing items backing the proscribed group.

Cdr Dominic Murphy of the Met's counter-terrorism command dismissed claims that protests would strain police resources, asserting that support for a labelled terrorist group will not overwhelm the force. Those charged hail from across the UK and have been notified by post about their court dates.

On 13 October, Westminster Magistrates' Court will see 23 individuals appear related to incidents on 5 July, while 41 others charged for 12 July actions will appear across several dates this month. Three more are scheduled for court on September 16 for suspected July 5 offences, according to the BBC.

Since Palestine Action's banning on 5 July, over 700 arrests have been carried out by the Met. The group, alongside other campaigners, is set to challenge this ban in the High Court in November, arguing it hampers free speech and stifles legitimate protests.

Amid ongoing debates, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper defended the ban, arguing that Palestine Action is not merely a protest group. Writing in the Observer, Cooper highlighted that charges linked to the group often involve severe crimes like violent disorder and aggravated burglary, which the CPS has linked to terrorism.

Spraying paint on military jets, as Palestine Action did at RAF Brize Norton on June 20, 2025, causing £7 million in damage, is classified as terrorism in the UK under the Terrorism Act 2000.

You hoped wrong!   Palestine Action was proscribed as a terrorist organization under the Terrorism Act 2000 on July 5, 2025, following a vote in Parliament (385–26 in the House of Commons).

Palestine Action was proscribed as a terrorist organization under the Terrorism Act 2000 on July 5, 2025, following a vote in Parliament (385–26 in the House of Commons). This makes it illegal to be a member, support, or display symbols (e.g., placards, T-shirts) associated with the group, with penalties up to 14 years for membership or 6 months for displaying support (e.g., the 67 individuals charged in London on July 5 and 12).

The proscription was prompted by actions like the June 20, 2025, incident at RAF Brize Norton, where activists sprayed red paint on two military planes, causing £7 million in damage, and other vandalism targeting arms companies like Elbit Systems. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper cited a “long history of unacceptable criminal damage” and increasing aggression.

The UK’s independent reviewer of terrorism legislation, Jonathan Hall KC, supports the proscription, arguing Palestine Action’s actions meet the legal threshold of terrorism (acts intended to influence government or intimidate the public)

So the vote in the Commons was clear, 385-25, or maybe you don't believe in democracy?

At least they had a 'head up; they knew before they did anything it was illegal!

See Tommy Robinson story today with every report starting "far right" so this group of mongrels should always be announced as far left terrorist jihadi sympathizers for balance 🤔

So here is the official, otherwise unvarnished JTAC report on Palestine Action. It makes plain that government ministers are simply lying about their information. I publish it as a journalist who has been given this document and sees an overwhelming public interest in the truth being known about a matter which has caused the arrest of some thousand people in recent weeks.

Labour to abolish most short prison sentences in England and Wales

The bill will also end short sentences of less than 12 months, barring exceptional circumstances, with ministers arguing that these are counterproductive and a driver of more crime.

Labour to abolish most short prison sentences in England and Wales

Exclusive: Legislation that will include Texas-style scheme to shorten jail time expected to be rolled out this year

Judges will also be placed under a new legal presumption to not jail lower-level offenders for sentences shorter than 12 months unless there are “exceptional reasons” for doing so.

Prisons to run out of space by March unless they release inmates early

Number of spare places in men’s jails fell below 1,000 last week as prison population headed towards peaks seen last summer

No jail time for anyone with sentences shorter than 12 months

Indeed the 67 Palestine action people arrested will probably get community service, unless judges cite exceptional reasons (e.g., terrorism’s severity).

Always thought that police no longer charge people. It's the Crown Prosecution Service that does the charging.

You know Nick, I already knew that.

My comment remains correct, there have been no acts of terrorism by this group.

I look forward to the judicial review of the Government’s proscription of Palestine Action.

Yes there has.

That's why they are now considered a terrorist organization.

So I'd be careful if I was you.
