Police in Lom Sak district, Phetchabun, have seized a huge haul of 1.2 million methamphetamine tablets worth nearly 10 million baht during an anti-drug operation.

The raid, part of the government-backed “Seal Stop Safe” campaign to eradicate narcotics from Thai society, was announced at a press conference by Phetchabun Governor Saran Yu Meethongkham, Provincial Police Region 6 Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Kittisak Durongkawiboon, Phetchabun Police Commander Pol Maj Gen Saranai Khongmuang, and senior district officials.

The discovery was made after staff from the Provincial Electricity Authority in Lom Sak reported suspicious sacks left by electricity poles along the Lan Ba–Dong Khwang road near Lom Sak airport. Inside, officers found the 1.2 million yaba tablets.

Pol Maj Gen Saranai said the trafficking network had adopted increasingly sophisticated methods to avoid detection. Couriers, referred to as “pilots,” are hired to drop off drugs at pre-arranged locations, where other members of the network later collect them. In this way, dealers and couriers never meet face-to-face.

Investigators believe the consignment was smuggled across the border from Laos before being transported through several hands into Thailand’s central provinces, with Bangkok believed to be the final destination.

Police confirmed that investigations are continuing to identify and arrest those behind the shipment.
