Trump and Federal Reserve Clash: Lisa Cook Sues in Job Battle

Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook, has launched a legal showdown against President Donald Trump. She's challenging his attempt to sack her, marking an unprecedented conflict over the independence of the US central bank.

The lawsuit filed by Ook seeks to annul Trump's order and also names Fed Chairman Jerome Powell as a defendant. Trump claims that Cook falsified mortgage statements and insists that his constitutional powers justify her removal. Cook argues there's no legal basis for her dismissal.

The confrontation adds heat to Trump's ongoing feud with the Fed over interest rates. Cook, a key figure in setting these rates, is at the centre of this controversy.

Cook's legal team, led by Abbe Lowell, argues Trump's actions threaten the integrity of the Federal Reserve Act. They claim Trump's unverified allegations about Cook's mortgage behaviour don't meet the legal 'cause' required for her removal, reported the BBC.

The White House, through spokesperson Kush Desai, defends Trump's decision by stating that the move strengthens the Federal Reserve's credibility. Desai cited Cook’s alleged financial discrepancies as a risk to her sensitive position.

Legal experts are sceptical about Trump's authority in this context. The Federal Reserve Act limits the power of the president by requiring a valid reason, or cause', for removing board governors. So far, no charges have surfaced against Cook, casting doubt on the allegations made by Trump's ally, Bill Pulte.

Cook is one of the seven governors on the Fed's board, playing a crucial role in determining US interest rates. Her removal could tilt the board in favour of Trump's economic strategies.

This legal clash could escalate to the US Supreme Court, highlighting the balance of power between the presidency and the Federal Reserve. The outcome holds potential implications for US economic policy and global financial markets.

Trump's war on the Fed and his willingness to put politics above well established independence  and intelligence, makes him one of the most dangerous men on the planet and it's very likely that America is going to suffer to an enormous degree economically in the next few years, because of his sheer idiocy. Never has America had a leader as ignorant as Disaster Don.

Way past the point of 'going to'. See you tube vids on shopping malls, car dealerships, Vegas, airports , etc.

In the complaint filed in DC court, there is no 'evidence' as to what Ms. Cook did or did not do:

"This case challenges President Trump’s unprecedented and illegal attempt to remove
Governor Cook from her position which, if allowed to occur, would the first of its kind in the
Board’s history. It would subvert the Federal Reserve Act (“FRA”), which explicitly requires a
showing of “cause” for a Governor’s removal, which an unsubstantiated allegation about private mortgage applications submitted by Governor Cook prior to her Senate confirmation is not.

14. The “for cause” removal protection guaranteed by the FRA, which has been the
bulwark of the Federal Reserve’s independence for the past century, prevents the President from firing a Federal Reserve Board governor except “for cause,” meaning instances of inefficiency, neglect of duty, malfeasance in office, or comparable misconduct.

I hope it ends up in front of the SC, that will ultimately open the door for the elimination of the fed. reserve if it goes Trumps way.

There are many Americans that hope for its demise. It'd be a rough, rough ride but so worth the reset that America needs.

Trump is simply playing by the new rules.

Saying, “The Dems lowered the bar massively. Trump is simply playing by the new rules,” is rhetorical and lacks substance. It sidesteps the specific point about Fed independence from politics by deflecting to a vague claim about Democrats without evidence or context. You don’t engage with the economic argument or provide a counterpoint about Trump’s Fed policy. Simple hate/division mouthing off with a partisan jab, implying a degraded political norm without specifying how it justifies or relates to the original critique.

In short, @spidermike007, raises a valid concern about central bank independence, a topic with significant economic implications whilst you blather childish rhetorical deflection, not a reasoned counterargument.

If you can find a single racist post I have made on this forum then feel free to share it.  😆

You will of course find plenty of posts where I have expressed huge admiration for black academics such as Thomas Sowell. You will find posts where I praise and quote black activists like MLK. Of course, you will ignore those.

So spare me your boring, inane, uneducated, predictable labels. They won't silence me.

16. The Court addressed the quasi-private nature of the Federal Reserve and the historical importance of its for-cause removal protections as unique even among independent agencies:

[R]espondents Gwynne Wilcox and Cathy Harris contend that arguments in this case
necessarily implicate the constitutionality of for-cause removal protections for members of
the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors or other members of the Federal Open Market
Committee. We disagree.

The Federal Reserve is a uniquely structured, quasi-private entity that follows in the distinct historical tradition of the First and Second Banks of the United States.

Obvious, this woman was not hired for her educational background:

"She also pursued studies toward a master’s degree in philosophy at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Senegal and earned a PhD in economics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1997, with a dissertation on the underdevelopment of the banking system in czarist and post-Soviet Russia."

She was hired by old sleepy Joe for one reason, and I think we all know that reason. Time for this woman to go and lets hope President Trump is successful at removing her.

Thats from May. Thats not this

U.S. Economy Surges Past Expectations as Spending, Investment Soar

You obviously have not been doing your due-diligence. The U.S. economy is soaring under President Trump with an all time high stock market and low unemployment. Life is good in the U.S. again with laws being enforced and the sovereignty of the U.S. being protected by ICE. It just keeps getting better and better everyday.

Ok. That's the obligation of the accuser, the Trump administration.

To date, no criminal charges were filed. No indictment has been obtained. All that exists is a partisan allegation.

Looks to me like someone has targeted an Afro American  woman who won't buckle to the whim of the  Trump administration. The same administration which objects to a museum documenting slavery.

That is a recent ruling on firing for cause at the Federal Reserve by the Supreme Court.

Your post gives the impression that they are the views of an ignorant bigot so prejudiced that they try to disparage a person without knowing what or who she is and are based upon a misunderstanding of her academic  background.

You refer to her doctoral dissertation  without knowing what she wrote about. Her research reviewed how the absence of property rights in czarist and post-Soviet Russia resulted in the underdevelopment of the banking system. It then led to her work proving that economic policies that discriminated against people based upon gender and/or ethnicity  had a significant economic cost. Her work showed that there was untapped economic opportunity in these groups. Both of these concepts which may seem revolutionary to MAGA cultists are actually more reflective of Christian philosophy than any radical policy.

Trump's firing letter says, "there is sufficient reason to believe".

So guilty or not did not matter to him.

That's not what it means. That's just what Cooki's lawyers say it means. Due to obvious reasons.

In reality "cause" means did she objectivelly do something that could cause her to be removed. Fraud would be an obvious cause for removal.

Good to see you acknowledge the look. And yes, in fairness Trump often has a similar look on his face. Nancy Pelosi is a another one.

Of course, Trump is the democratically elected POTUS.
