What do people think Pattaya is all about 

Why single guys come in their droves it's not for the beach and Temples

Only people who make money the Thai Tourist board get worked up about the image side of things 

It's only a programme here today gone tomorrow

Living in Thaland beats living in 'BBCland', that's for sure. Yes, Thailand has its problems some physical (and factual) others are from perspective. All countries have a 'good' and 'bad' side and when you leave one for another you are really just changing one set of problems for another. We are all different and our choice depends on many factors.

To make an equivalent documentary on the UK would take twice as long.

I liked it especially when the cameraman zoomed in to the bar girl in white's Jack and Danny' that must have inspired the name the dark side of paradise 🤔

I watched it for less than two minutes and had to switch it off because she was so fuxxing annoying 

Lived here 10 years now, great place. BBC show just trying to get viewers, with biased reporting. Thailand is no different in its tourist hotspots to any other country. Lets face it nearly all media these days is driven by gender opinions not actual fact.

Tim, I suggest to you if you live in Thailand to get your hands on a Yellow Book and you can go to the places you mention above for the same price as Thais. Well yes, the BBC documentary was a terrible piece of alleged journalism, but it does have a point, most people who come here for a holiday will likely never see the " dark side " of Thailand, but have no doubt that it does exist, the "Land of Smiles" is a slogan, nothing more, its a country that has more than its fair share of problems, mostly hidden from foreigners who come for a 2 week holiday, but spend an extended period of time, or live here and you will soon discover its the " Land of Fake Smiles " the Thais smile when you are making them money, money stops, so do the smiles, and your lovely Thai friends soon disappear once the cash stops, be under no illusion, once you see through the mirage of Thailand, and start using your brain instead of your genitals to make decisions, you might see it for what it really is......a racist, violent, corrupt, crime ridden country with no respect for foreigners, only what they can extract from them, im waiting for the Thai apolagist backlash, bring it on...

It was also shown on the main BBC1 channel.  I watched it and thought it was pretty tame considering the title of the documentary.

No different than the UK it takes years to establish friendships. Thailand is no different than anywhere else but it takes friendships and a smile and they'll be your friends without money or with money.

So what? Why be upset over something like this, so it's a documentary that shows the dark side of Thailand, big deal. Why would we care, why would we care what others think of us, and why would we care if others see the dark side of Thailand? Many of us live here and have absolutely wonderful lives, we adore this country and its people, and for me waking up every day here is a treat, so why not celebrate that? 

 

This doc means nothing, absolutely nothing. It's astonishing to me how many people these days have such thin skin, they just can't handle any perceived loss of face. I think that's a huge contemporary societal weakness.

it seems the show gives a real picture of thailand, and that is fine with me ... but i worry this bbc documentary will attract more lowlifes and criminals to come here ... thailand already has enough foreigners causing problems, we don’t need even more ...

I don't doubt the statistics, but is that due to Thailand's inherent dangers, or the "adventurous" nature of many of  those that visit here?
