No Blood Donations from Gay Men: Thailand's Ongoing LGBT+ Fight

You do realise that straight people can lie too don't you?

I never suggested that they did not.

What I did suggest , was that evidently, one way of encouraging people to change their behaviour, and or, do something they might not normally consider doing is to ban them from doing it.  I was not specifically referring to gay people except in the context of this article It was also however, intended as a general comment about human nature

Another example of this, that you might find less triggering,   would be the number of people who decide they really really just have to have a drink on Buddhist days, Election days, or out of licencing hours.  just because they can't.

                     Do you get it yet?

Yes everybody should be able, and indeed, encouraged to give blood

Yes all blood should be tested and guaranteed safe

It is pointless just asking people about their sexual habits,

Um, how about NO? Gays are significantly more likely to have hiv and aids. I don't care how badly homos want to donate blood, it isn't safe.

  • No Blood Donations from Gay Men: Thailand's Ongoing LGBT+ Fight   And rightly so. They should add people who got covid or the covid shots.   But why this complaining in the OP ?

I remember that, wasn't it called factor 8  or something like that?  I seem to remember some sort of attempted cover up too

How does the Red Cross know they are LGBT+?

In the medical field the modern standard is to refer men who have sex with men. That includes the large percentage of such people who don't identify as gay.

You're totally missing the point Thailand is not the UK or the USA trying to make everyone equal.

I dont agree with this position and think simple testing can be done.

However, to Think Thailand is a place where everyone is equal then you still dont understand how Thai society works.

Everyone has their place on the treating  ladder, I dont condone this but I'm aware of it and accept it.

We're not talking about equality in society as a whole we're talking about treating gay people as equals. I'm well aware there are inequalities in life, especially in Thailand. There's no need in this case for gay people to be lower on the ladder, or indeed in any case. Of course there are inequalities and we should always try to address them and find a solution to them. Thats what's happening here.

And it must be remembered that not all gay men or gay women have sex. They are the ones in the lowest risk group.

Well it's obviously not pointless asking people about their sexual habits is it? If you went to give blood and admitted you'd slept with 15 different women in the last month they'd rightly turn you out. You would be deemed high risk. Same for a gay guy.

I would not be having a problem with taking this blood, I see no problem as long as the blood is tested as with all blood donations, having gay blood does not make me a gay. They are helping saving life.

Thailands blood donation rules are opposite to others in some areas.

No donations from people with Haemochromatosis.

No coconut milk before donation.

Now some woke gay thing.

They would be better just following the standard of the rest of the world with this.

What's next? Being able to have babies?

For God's sake...stop with all the "victim mentality" crap! Go live your Godless perverted lifestyle away from the public square and stop your virtue signaling. No one is entitled to do whatever the heck they want to and then holler "unfair" when things don't go their way. I would love to cross over into Communist China without a tourist visa, but I don't cry "foul" and stand outside the border crossing with a protest sign over my head. Just live your life and leave the rest of us alone!

It's not only Thailand that gives gay men a life ban from donating blood, and then a lot of countries have a limited ban (3-6 months).

And yes, it's all because of HIV that Men who has Sex with Men are banned from donating blood. That's because the statistics here in Thailand show that over all 1% of the Thai population has HIV, while the Thai MSM population has an average of about 15% HIV positive. However, in Bangkok it's estimated that the number of MSM with HIV is as high as 25%.

The beauty of donating blood is that you don't choose who receives it and vice versa. I've had 7 Covid vaccine injections and it gives me great pleasure to know that I'm saving the life of some anti-vaxxer with my blood.

You can have all the gay blood you want dude, at least make it optional for those of us who don't want it, same as covid blood.

It's only blood ... it's not going to make you gay, although there's nothing wrong with that, if your preference :coffee1:

Interesting as back home they were running Prep commercials on TV and all the actors were portrayed as trannies and the gays.

Simple - accept blood donations from the LGBT+ community for transfusions within the LGBT+ community!

Add the blood from all Agnostics to that list too.  Oh, ya Catholics also….

As safe as a straight person's blood, as all should be tested anyway.  They may have more failed test, but to be realistic, I think the RC offers free testing anyway, so not actually costing them anything.

If they pop in for free HIV test, and pass, then probably safer if they come back in say 3-6 months and donate blood, then again every few months, than the straight guy, newly infected, donating for the first time.

Can recommend a book called " April Fools Day".

Well worth reading.

Some stark realities in there, not the feel good stuff some people want to believe.

It's about a young haemophiliac, the author's Bryce Courtney, son, in Australia who contracted AIDs due to the need for blood transfusions back in the 1980's.

Every haemophiliac died during that period due to infected blood as I recall.

Haemophiliacs are exclusively male.

It used to also be the rule if you lived in the UK between, I think, 1989 and the mid 90's you couldn't donate blood in OZ due the risk of mad cow disease.

Read the book. If that is a skill you possess.

Aren't AI searches wonderful? Using artificial intelligence is the domain of those with none of their own intelligence in my opinion.

Carry on.

Why would I waste my time, reading a book, irrelevant to 21st century or anything about my life.   I'm done reading books, having better things to do.

Only read books about investing, or if extremely bored at work, to pass time quicker.

Might want to work on your people skills if wanting to be taken seriously.

Sad you still have to work.

Keep reading about investing, you may learn something.

If you have any questions, reach out, I may be able to help. Depending on your attitude.

Try to keep up, I've been retired for ~25 yr, and I'm only 70.

I'm not the one with the attitude.

Blood donations, they go through vigourous testing/screening before being given to  another ?
