Cambodia is facing widespread flooding across eight provinces, with more than 16,000 families affected and hundreds evacuated to higher ground. The National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) confirmed the scale of the crisis following torrential rains on Friday and Saturday.

The provinces of Ratanakiri, Stung Treng, Kratie, Prey Veng, Kampong Thom, Siem Reap, Mondulkiri, and Banteay Meanchey have all been inundated. Prime Minister Hun Manet has ordered authorities to monitor the situation closely and prepare swift response measures, warning that major floods are expected this year.

According to NCDM spokesman Soth Kimkol Mony, 14,929 homes and 10,730 hectares of rice fields have been impacted, with 229 hectares already damaged. Relief efforts are underway, coordinated by local unified commands at provincial, municipal, and district levels.

In Mondulkiri’s Koh Nhek district, where flooding has been particularly severe, 791 families have received aid from the Cambodian Red Cross. Governor Thong Savun inspected damaged infrastructure and farmland, reporting no casualties thanks to timely evacuations. He urged residents near the Sre Pok River to remain vigilant as waters slowly recede.

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has warned that Tropical Storms Boaloi and Neoguri, though not expected to reach Cambodia directly, continue to influence the southwest monsoon system. Their presence may bring further rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across the region.

Authorities are urging the public to stay informed and take necessary precautions. With floodwaters still threatening homes and crops, the coming days will be critical in safeguarding lives and livelihoods.
