YouTube has agreed to a $24.5 million settlement with US president Donald Trump following a lawsuit over the temporary suspension of his account post-2021 Capitol insurrection. The settlement aims to resolve a four-year legal dispute, with the funds directed towards supporting the construction of a White House State Ballroom. This agreement also involves compensations to other plaintiffs whose accounts were suspended, including the American Conservative Union.

The lawsuit accused YouTube of violating Trump's First Amendment rights, charging the suspension was influenced by federal government coercion. This case concluded similarly to Trump's settlements with Meta and X, which resulted in payouts of $25 million and $10 million, respectively. These settlements followed the restoration of Trump's social media accounts, with YouTube reinstating his account in 2023.

The construction of the White House ballroom has attracted significant interest, with corporate and individual donors pledging approximately $200 million to the project. Notable contributions have been reported from major companies like Google, R.J. Reynolds, and Booz Allen Hamilton. As part of Trump's administration's recent efforts, there has been a noticeable increase in building alliances with tech companies and industry leaders.

Trump's administration announced the planned 90,000-square-foot ballroom as part of the White House's East Wing renovation. These developments are part of an ongoing effort to enhance the premises, backed by strong support from corporate donors. Meanwhile, Alphabet has refrained from commenting on the settlement, focusing on closing this prolonged legal chapter.

Key Takeaways

  • YouTube agrees to pay $24.5 million to settle Trump's lawsuit.
  • The settlement supports Trump's planned White House ballroom project.
  • Corporate donors pledged $200 million for the ballroom construction.

YouTube sees this as an investment, it will pay for itself. That's why trump is winning lawsuits, abuse of power.

Must be that and not because of the wrongful lawsuits that the left attempted and lost

A plain and simple abuse of power.

Great news. Should have been 222 Million.

Those were dark days when Twitter and YouTube were trying to silence a former/future President.

How times have changed. X/Musk helping Trump win the election and Zuckerberg fully on board with the GOP.

Google still sucks though. Burying stories that are sympathetic to anything right of centre. Even if you type the exact string to search for it's buried on page 16 after various Guardian articles supporting the opposite view. 😆

You are correct...abuse of power to censor Trump.

And the winning continues.

Meta (Facebook) $25 million Account suspension following the Capitol riot
Twitter (X) $10 million Account suspension after the Capitol riot
Paramount (CBS) $16 million Defamation related to a "60 Minutes" interview
Disney (ABC) $15 million Defamation in an interview with Rep. Nancy Mace

Maybe next time, they'll think twice about deplatforming a candidate.

They'll probably still do it.  But at least they'll think twice.

Those numbers should be x10.  Then they'd really learn their lesson.

Judging by the frothing on this thread, this news isn't making the hivemind happy🤣

The banning of a President due to irrational fear and hatred was more fun than grovelling and shelling out the $$$? Who could have known?🤣😂

Unlike Trump, they don't have the government's power to coerce them to do so....:coffee1:

Isn't it funny how the same people who are now screeching bloody murder about the end of free speech were absolutely fine when it was just conservatives and Trump supporters being deplatformed, banned and shadow banned?

So true. The hypocrisy of the left is stunning.

Trump is abusing his power to such an extent that people would rather pay him money and settle, than battle him in court, as he's known as the most litigious man in America, and one who will appeal till the end of time, that's just who he is.

He wins some, he loses some. That's life for him, and for most of us.

Haha my boy keeps winning

In the context of the comments here, how is Trump abusing his power?  He is not known as the most litigious man in America and legal appeals have limits for anyone.

Riiiiiight, but when Kimmel criticizes Trump, freedom of speech goes right out the window! Such a shame Disney backpedaled because I would’ve loved to see how much money Trump would’ve had to fork out over that! He’s such a hypocrite!

Surely you meant to say;

He is not known as the most litigious man in America

Nonsense.   He has as much freedom of speech as anyone else, what he does not have is the freedom to say whatever he wants when he has constraints such as an employment contract that can limit him from expressing his personal opinions on a private network... i.e our house, our rules

Not at all, if that's what I meant to say, I would have said it. Trump is not known as the most litigious man in America...some AN posters may like to make that claim but that does not make it factual.

Absolute tosh! Typical Dem making up stories and so called facts to fit your narrative against anything non woke or loony left. It's all coming out now about how treasonous the Dems were when in power and the crimes they committed trying to set trump up with the Russian collusion frame job. Schiff, Comey, Clapper, Brennan et al will have their day in court.....Only it will be on the opposite of the prosecution!
